Fringey -- I had a similar situation about 2 years ago. I lost my wallet at a gas station on Friday night, and was scheduled to go out of town the next morning to a conference sponsored by a client. I would have been able to get a replacement DL quickly, but the local DMV office wasn't open on Saturdays, and the one in the area that was open was too far away to get a new DL before my flight. Plus, it will take some time to explain the situation to the airline representative, who will have to call in his supervisor, who will ask you lots of questions about how you lost your license and about why you look like a serial killer in an argyle sweater vest in your law school ID picture. She will also tell you that she hates lawyers because one stole from her grandmother's business and no one knew until grandma died and the will was read, and to make things worse, that shitty lawyer had died a few years before.

What will she say about people who do benefits?

I've been to so many weddings lately that were officiated by friends and family who got their Universal Life Church certificates off the internet that I wonder now who can't solemnize weddings. Hell, I've performed a wedding.

If I ever get married, I'd be much more inclined to ask a close friend to perform the ceremony than an unknown religious official or judge.

That is crazy shit. apparantly, the requirements for notary vary from state to state in NY you have to take an exam, in TX I don't think you have to, and CA it varies...we discussed this on my legal secty group....

My favorite thing about weddings in Colorado is that the bride and groom can marry themselves. That seems about right at this point in my life.

That seems about right generally. Why shouldn't a bride and groom just be able to go to city hall (or wherever), and obtain not just a marriage license, but a marriage certificate as well?

Also, when you e-mail the color copy of the license, include in the e-mail your SS#, because then you'll have those important pieces of info right where you can find them.
