Steakhouse Question

I think it's a scam the restaurants are pulling on idiots with too much money and they laugh every time they prepare an order in the back.

Luger's is supposed to be amazing. I've never been but everyone goes on and on about it...my mother in law included....

I'm not a huge AC fan, but Bobby Flay has Bobby Flay steak in the borgata. I'd like to try

The "acting like they've done something" includes the ridiculous price for the slicing.

No one is arguing that people who go to a steakhouse are comparing the prices on everything and trying to see which appetizer gives them the best value. As an overall point, I don't know why one would pass up the other appetizers in favor of a tomato. Maybe one is in the mood for a tomato. I don't know. But these idiots who sit around and spout off about how amazing the thick cut tomato and onion salad are look like jackasses to me.

And I've tasted these salads. They are not amazing or at least they were not amazing when I tried them. They were tomatoes and onions and tasted like tomatoes and onions.

TM
You're forgetting the people who order the onion and tomatoes in the mistaken belief that somehow undoes the steak and cheesecake they're shovelling into their pie-holes with it.

Nothing's sillier than the cat who orders a double filet and passes on the creamed spinach.

I have never heard anyone go on about a tomato being great, but I would probably be bothered if I did.

You actually hear that a lot? Have you moved to sebastian-land?

The biggest scam is the home fries. I'm always tempted to slap the person who says "oh, the home fries here are the greatest." Bullshit. Potatoes seared in butter and salt are glorified Lays potato chips.

The Potato is a lousy, useless food. Bloomberg should have banned its flavorless carcass.

Can I tell you how much I appreciate your eatery recommendations? Since you mentioned it here, The Chocolate Bar has become Mr. Chick's favorite establishment. He now makes up things to celebrate so we can go there. Mmmmmmmmm... truffle ice cream. As he loves Fogo, I am certain he'll want to give this place a try too.

For gwinky's secret santa

I can't remember who it is this year, but you may consider getting her Sesame Street Old School Volume I: 1969-1974.

You're quite welcome. My brother is a Robb Walsh devotee, so we'll try anything as soon as a review comes out in the Press.

I love love love the truffle ice cream. I'm the opposite. I try to avoid driving down Alabama so I don't find myself fighting for a parking spot and sampling all of their ice creams before deciding, again, that truffle is the way to go.

I went to Catalan (spree: annoying sound on website) yesterday for brunch (no sound), and I thought it was excellent, if a little pricey for the big plates. The gazpacho was as good as I've ever had it in a restaurant. Robb Walsh didn't like it as much as Allison Cook in the Chronicle did.

Oh no! I couldn't agree less. I love the potato, in all its wonderful, super-delicious forms. I especially like eating potatoes in the evening, because they always make me get a very good sleep.
