In fairness, though, understand that Franken would probably write a whole new book about jackbooted thugs if a Bush supporter had done that.

Minor point, but there's a difference between the First Amendment and freedom of speech. It's the same kind of difference as exists between "too many men on the field" and "fair play."

Minor point, but where was the state action?

Anyone else see the irony in Al Franken writing a book entitled "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot"?

No, because Al Franken is short.

I was thinking the whole story had to be a phony to get his ass back in the press, and make him seem less wimpy. What was missing? That little fuck comes at me when I'm heckling Dean, he's going back with more than rumpled glasses. Well not me, because I'm a chicken hawk, but the generic political protester would kick his ass.

I see myself as less of a heckler and more of a sporadic participant who often lobs zingers.

Interesting in that the media may have over-hyped Edwards this time as they over-hyped Dean last time.

As S_A_M knows, you just can't resist attacking people for what you think they would probably say.

Or maybe he can't resist making a joke or two.

Lighten up, Francis.

Periodically, I stop and think to myself "Ty's going to say something inane", and then you always do, so my track record's pretty good.

No one said he would win. They may have overstated or given a misimpression of his likely results -- but the bottom-line is Edwards did not have enough time to really build on his Iowa results in NH. He had done relatively little in the State before Iowa (why would he think he could compete with Dean or Kerry in a New England state that borders their home states?). Onw eek gap wasn't enough. Even this week -- he focused part of his attention on South Carolina, because the South is still the key to his strategy.

Even so -- IIRC Edwards was polling in the mid-to high single digits in NH before Iowa. Thus, even these early results reflect a 50% bump in one week.

I wonder when Lieberman will withdraw. So much for Joementum. An almost complete lack of charisma does ultimately trump substance in Presidential politics. (That and he is probably just too conservative for the primary crowd).

S_A_M

[ETA: Third Place is a nice success for Edwards in NH -- and all he needs. Fourth might be just a touch disappointing now that expectations have been raised.]

Yep. And Limbaugh would probably sell his autographed gift edition of the book to fund his drug habit.

On the substance -- I can't see how/why Franken or others got away with clubbing a guy if they weren't working security. Or why he thought it was right. The folks just needed to be frog-marched out. If the folks weren't LaRouche supporters, he might have been in big trouble. As it is -- no one will care.
