A woman found a piece of human fingertip in her salad at a Red Robin. Shudder.
It's that slippery slope again. Once we accepted finger sandwiches, could finger salads be far behind?

Seems there's been a lot of "fly in my soup" stories reported lately. I especially liked the "condom in the chowder" story, where the woman first thought she was chewing on a piece of calamari.

You know, I saw the story and thought about posting it. However, the restaurant in question is in Canton, Ohio and I thought that the fine people in the great state of Ohio are already having enough trouble dealing with intelligent design in public schools and this guy:

to also have to deal with finger food.

Ok here's a question. How the fuck do you keep your lipstick from wearing off?

We haven't irritated the men with a makeup discussion in quite some time, so, please, brand suggestions for the woman who hasn't worn makeup since junior high.

Thank you.

I am intrigued by the "good hair" bit. What do you mean by good hair? A lot of it? Shiny hair? Well-groomed? Blonde?* A good haircut?

I recently had my hair cut and the haircutter dude and I were talking about celebrity hair (a deep and meaningful conversation, obviously). I mentioned that I thought Nicole Kidman had pretty hair, and he gave a derisive snort and said - "HA! She's got, like, 3 strands of hair. The rest is extensions." Now, how can that be true?

*My group of friends in college had a handicap for rating blondes, because often, people think a blonde woman is attractive, when really, she isn't, it's just the blonde hair. So we had to adjust for that factor. If she would still be attractive with brown/red/other (!?) hair, then she truly was attractive -- otherwise, she was a candidate for BHS -- Blonde Hair Syndrome.

You don't [keep lipstick from wearing off].
I think this is correct. Though I am by no means a makeup expert, I will say that most of those "long-wearing" lipsticks are not for me because long-wearing is equivalent to "lip-drying". They suck. I use lipstick that is more like gloss and just reapply when I'm going out.

There are many "extended wear" lipsticks that you can try. The only problem is, is that they tend to have a "dry" look - no sheen. Some of them can be quite durable when tested on wine glasses. I've tried the L'Oreal, Revlon and Almay. All are very similar in their wearability with a slight lead going to L'Oreal. But the problem is that it usually requires the use of a gloss on top to keep it from looking cakey over time. Try a clear gloss stick-like product (I use a Clinique version). The clear comes off first without the color underneath coming off (until you eat - then all bets are off).

Another hint - one that I've kept closely guarded until now - given to me by some college age girls - is to use the lip pencil as your base - not just for outline - the whole lip - both of them. That shit is durable as hell depending on the brand you use (try clinique, chanel or Estee Lauder) and then light gloss over top.

eta, not so closely guarded secret and ditto on the MAC - it rocks.

I defer to Penske on this, but I thought there was some kind of time-consuming technique that helps with lipstick staying power, i.e. some kind of blotting method combined with the application of, um, some kind of powder that the professional makeup artists use? Surely humankind has tackled this problem by now.

I think dtb is mostly correct.

My advice is to use a lip liner, and color in the whole lip. And then apply lipstick on top of that. I'm a big fan of MAC products. And the new Stila glosses rock.

I use a mac lip pencil in the color lipstick I'd be wearing to fill in my lips and wear a lip baume or a gloss, depending on how wet I want my lips to look.

It gives good coverage for a few hours and you're only touching up the baume.

ETA: BnB, good call: the Stila gloss is amazing.

All or any of the above. It has to be healthy hair that looks good on that person's face. In general, though, long straight blonde hair tends to be preferred by men from what I have seen of men. Now if long straight blonde hair doesn't look good on that woman's face, that wouldn't be good hair.

I am sure that she has extensions, but of course, she has to have more than 3 strands of her own hair.

Thank you, but alas, no. As much as I try to be a stud, or studette, or whatever the right word would be, I cannot bring myself to really date more than one person at a time. And so, one person it will be. I picked the cutest, nicest one who seems willing to put up with my shit. I'll let you know how it goes. I am sorry if this crushed any fantasies.

I wore makeup last night because I was meeting with a bunch of church elders about something. After, I realized it wasn't such a big deal to put it on and I kind of liked the way it looked. I figured I would try wearing it for a while and see how I feel about it.

Thanks for the advice folks.
