I'd take Vail over Aspen. Breckenridge is my favorite Colorado destination, followed by A-Basin and Telluride (before the beautiful people discovered it). I've also had great days at Copper Mt. Vail and Aspen are after Copper on my list.
Haven't been to any BC resorts. Thinking about going to Big Sky this spring. Anyone been there?

The skiing and nightlife are both better in Aspen. And it's prettier. Vail is literally right on I-70.
But, the skiing's better yet in Telluride, and the nightlife is pretty good there too.
And Steamboat has some nice skiing too, plus my brother is a ski instructor there.
Arapahoe Basin has some great bowls, but it's pretty overrun with CU students.
Always remember to bend your knees.

the whole sheep breeding thing is insensitive. I went to Michigan State, and I admit there were lonely Feb. nights. SS went to Oklahoma State- nuff said.

Big Sky is awesome if the weather is good, but brutal if it starts to snow or is very, very cold.

Um, yah, like, Vail and Aspen are so totally overrun with posers it's not even funny anymore.
Toas, NM or various places in Utah are TOTALLY the way to go, dude.

Iwas told that Steamboat had the best snow, but that it was out of popularity with the "beautiful people" set.
Bent knees were the problem. Sat down on a landing, caught an edge. Much pain.

In the summer, which is only vaguely relevant. All reports were that it's great, uncrowded skiing. But cold. Really cold. I'd like to combine it with a trip to Yellowstone in the winter, to snowmobile before the blue state libs. ban that too.

Vail is so gigantic that you can get lost. Just unbelievable. Aspen's nightlife is great. Steamboat snow is very nice. Breck's lift system is fucking brutal, and Copper is relaxing.
If I could choose to go to any ski resort in North America, I would choose Whistler or Jackson Hole. I've never been to either, but WB has 5000 vertical feet + nightlife, which means it's apparently a combination of Vail and Aspen.

There's nothing quite like the Wyoming wilderness when coupled with the sound and fumes of a snowmobile. Plus, the noise warns the wildlife to get out of the way so they won't block your view.

Haven't you heard? The blue states are working on a merger with Canada. Not that you'd miss California's economy, of course.

Steamboat does have great snow, but the terrain isn't all that challenging. If you have skiied Whistler (my favorite mountain in North America), Steamboat isn't all that tough.
I'll throw in a second vote for Breckenridge: it's a terrific area with 4 major peak systems accessible on one pass. The town os ok, but then I' usually so tired when skiing that I'm asleep by 9:00. Yeah, I know I'm boring, but I don't give a shit. How can you expect to be on the first chair in the morning if you'r epartying all night?!?

Easily. Stay at a place above 10,000 feet like I did in Breckenridge. I drank all night and couldn't sleep at that altitude. I was ready to go by 6:30.
I still think Breck's lift system is awful, and their double blacks are double blacks b/c of exposed rocks (yikes).
