Aren't you confident they'll just rot in hell for this? Why do we need to regulate?

As for the "fixing" bit, when can we expect the Republican babyjesus to start resurrecting those who died waiting for federal assistance to arrive? Sometimes "sorry" just isn't good enough.
|
Well, since Nagin proclaiming to the world the "death toll could exceed 10,000" - and since the actual total is currently only around 500 - it appears to be that babyjesus is already on the job.

2. I'd love to see him give an address to the nation in a time of crisis. Just one. It would put the Republicans out to pasture for twenty years.

Where were the planes?

You still haven't explained Where Were the Planes?
Bush said this: "to the extent that the federal government didn't fully do it's job right, I take responsibility. I want to know what went right and what went wrong."
He hasn't indicated what he or any member of his administration did wrong. This is as meaningful as Ty's acceptance of responsibility. We know many things went wrong:
He didn't activite the military.
He didn't activate the CRAF.
He appointed an incompetant and left him in charge.
He didn't activate the national guard.
He didn't approve activations of the national guard by other states in a timely fashion.
So, let's here him take responsibility and start fixing things. Getting rid of Brown was the first meaningful act, but there are more needed.
|
You keep bringing up these silly points:
1) CRAF has been used once - ONCE - and that was to airlift soldiers overseas. It has never been used - or considered for that matter - for a civilian airlift
2) Blanco refused to concede control to the Feds
3) If you are so bitter about this, write your Senator and have them cancel the Posse Comitatus Act.

Talk is cheap. Bush's "I'm responsible" is meaningless talk -- the fact is he was responsible and is responsible. The only question is whether he will ever be held responsible. Given the way everyone seems to be tripping all over themselves to suck his dick for just saying the magic words, it's not looking particularly likely.
|
No, no - I think you should push for Bush to resign.
This Cheney for President business sounds like a winner.

Sounds fine to me. You say this as if Cheney's ascension to President will (a) mark a meaningful shift in policy, or (b) horrify Democrats, and/or (c) give a real boost to Cheney's chances in '08.
I doubt (a) will happen. (b) will probably happen, at least among those with weak stomachs, but who cares. (c) will happen, at least as regards the rest of the GOP field.
Again, that's fine with me. Knock 'em dead, Slave*. Gooooooooo, Cheney!
*Metaphorically speaking, of course. Cheney will take care of the rest by himself.

So, what federal statute does she violate by saying that _if_ anyone, including the President, says "X" she "might likely have to punch [that person]"?

18 USC 871(a):
Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the
mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter
carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document
containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the
President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in
he order of succession to the office of President of the United
States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully
otherwise makes any such threat against the President,
President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the
order of succession to the office of President, or Vice
President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned
not more than five years, or both
I think boith is appropriate for a US Senator.

Better than, say, Sessions'. Are these hearings really for the purposes of Career-Day questions like how much time litigants before the court get to speak?
