My fil is gay, and when visiting his house he has on occasion reminded me to leave the seat up when I'm finished in the bathroom.
He'll also say, if the SFC and I engage in PDA, "Damn heterosexuals, always flaunting their sexuality."
No, ours is not the typical Mormon family.

Wow I guess they just missed me. I was remote linking during the logo contest.

Um is there, like, an FTP button I can click on or something? I see that there is some sort of PHP button up there. Is that the same thing, or is that the stuff that makes you crazy when someone puts it in your dope?

He was saying I should do it. You can't upload pictures except for avatars to our server.

|
well, the greeting "fag" is often an introduction to a beating so saying "and" to "fag" is actually harder today than saying it to the "n" word. * there was a day when being called a "dago" was fighting time, but that has gone away and most i-ties can now say "and" and we are certainly better off for not needing to fight over it. black people woill be better off when the user of the other is simply seen as ignorant, or a rapper, and not threatening (except in the case of a rapper).
on the "creative" name thing, one of the very few things we should take from the french is the rule that only certain approved names are available. it just takes to much from society to have to learn to pronounce names that differ slightly from normal names just because the parents couldn't spell, or thought it cute. Actually, a spell check at the birth registry, "did you mean Duane?", might be in order.
* actually "fag" isn't the scary one, "faggot", the more formal, is the typical salutation of the true gaybasher.

Yup, all the time. In a joking, affectionate way.
Sometimes only half joking and not so affectionate.
It doesn't work as well these days though, since so many gay folks are having kids.
Much like your fil tm, I will say to straight people that they needn't flaunt their sexuality in front of me thank you very much, or that they don't need to apologize for being straight it isn't their fault. Most people laugh. Some people, not so much.

Restaurant tipping
When eating at a restaurant, do you tip on the subtotal or on the total, including tax?
A friend and I debated this tonight while splitting the dinner tab.

Going back to our context of 188 boys named Joan, I'll agree with you completely, but suggest that maybe those poor guys shouldn't bear THAT much of a disproportionate burden in our quest for happiness and equality.

I have spent my entire life with a "misspelled" name. Have heard conflicting versions of the story from each parent. Mom says it was all the drugs they gave her at childbirth, Dad claims it's spelled the same way as a B-movie starlet who caught his eye sometime shortly before I was born.
Either way, I have had to endure the aggravation of spelling my name over and over again for people. I used to think it was a pain in the ass. Now, I note that whether or not someone spells my name correctly says something about that person's attention to detail. Now I kind of like the "misspelling" and sometimes I like to make people feel really, really stupid for not paying attention.

When the most recent Wee Slothrop was born, em would have been saddled with an obviously misspelled name for life had I not taken another look at the draft birth certificate . . . . . The woman doing the typing just wasn't paying attention.

Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad! Those all come from the same animal!
Homer: [Chuckles] Yeah, right Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.
