Non!

Flaming Friday.

You'd think a dude with a skirt would be able to remember Flaming Friday.

In a few simple words, you have captured all of the crazy mixed-up whirlwind of emotions that I have been feeling over the last 24 hours. Thank you.

That said, I fully support the proposed ban of Mr. Penske_Account's primary online identity, whatever that may be.

But, before the banning, I just want to let him know that the Petunia misses him too.

A lot.

I knew you would say this. Thank you. Thank Petunia too, I couldn't have done it without her.

Sampling Redux

I received this message from a poster who prefers to remain anonymous:

Had I sampled*, I would not be as screwed up as I am. In particular, I probably wouldn't be moderately obsessed with a former work colleague. And I probably wouldn't feel the need to have imaginary internet friends.

*Granted, it's hard to get much sampling in [when you marry young]. But my issue is probably the need for more emotional/relationship type sampling, rather than just saying "hmmmm....never banged an asian chick before."

Damn you E/O you forget to put the NTTAWWT after the asian chick thing. Now everyone is going to think I'm not PC.

Did they all fit? Or is she now suing Mcdonald's because the cup overflowed?

Didn't realize how much of how little had gone on in my absence.

Halloween song

I know that posting lyrics of songs can sometimes be annoying, but this is Halloween, and I heard my favorite Halloween song on the hippie radio station this morning, and I have posted this (I think) every Halloween, and if you like it go to Amazon (via the Lawtalker's link, natch) and get Richard Shindell's "Sparrow's Point" or "The Courier" (his live album), and here is Richard Shindell's tale of a Halloween break-up entitled "Are You Happy Now?"

Enjoy.

You took the toaster when you went
You never paid your half the rent
You took the spices from the rack
But you don't have to put 'em back
Cause in your haste on Halloween
You left your camera on the bed
Where we played roles in black and white
You left a roll of black and white
I set the timer thought of you
Put the lens up to my head
I took a photograph for you
What comes out gray is really red

So are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

I smashed your pumpkin on the floor
The candle flickered at my feet
As goblins flew across the room
The children peered into the room
A cowboy shivered on the porch
Cinderella checked her watch
A hobo waited in the street
An angel whispered trick or treat
What was I supposed to do
But to sit there in the dark
I was amazed to think that you
Would take the candy with you too

So are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

I've sat all night and now it's dawn
And I cannot believe my eyes
There's garbage strewn across the lawn
Where we once stared up at the sky
And streams of paper fill the tree
That hovered over you and me
And shaving cream covers the car
That we picked up in Baltimore

And though I know it's hard to tell
I hope that what's his name treats you well
I still maintain that he's a bum
But it's your money have some fun

So are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

You always asked why I had not
Written you a verse or two
Since that's the one thing I regret
I dedicate this one to you

So are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?

We all knew it was you anyway. And if you don't stop pestering me, I'll be forced to change jobs again! Back off, buddy.

Joe Schmo redux

It seems that I am the only one who made it to the finale (surprise), but I forgot to mention my favorite line from the post-show interview. This long intro will serve as your spoiler space because, frankly, I don't think anyone else cared enough to tune in... Anyway, when the smarmy host asked Matt (Joe) what he planned to to with the money ($100K), Matt said that he was putting it in a bank account for his mom (weird) and that he planned to follow Phish around for a while (making more sense). He didn't mention what portion of the money would go to his pot hookup, but we all know that s/he will be getting a cut.

Sorry. Back to whatever it was that you were discussing...

Poll: Best tagline for a movie ever

I noticed today that the Directors Cut of Alien is opening today in a multiplex near you. I love this movie. Scared the crap out of me when I was probably way too young to see it, and it still can put me on the edge of my seat. I think what I liked the most about it was that everyone seemed normal in a really abnormal situation. In all the "space" movies and tv shows I'd seen before, the people seemed somehow removed from everyday people. In Alien, I felt like I could totally relate to these people (or would, when I was older than 12 or however young I was when I first saw it). That made the movie that much scarier.

On top of all of that, I think it has one of the best tag lines ever: In space, no one can hear you scream.

So what's your favorite tagline for a movie?

That is a good one.

I kind of have a soft spot for "a long time ago, in a galaxy far away" from the original Star Wars.

Oh, and "this time, it's personal" from a bunch of movies. Like it was impersonal the last time?
