Oh, and like a few others, I decided to get a scary Halloween avatar, too. Boo!
I forgot about getting $500 immediately even though I have bad credit and refinancing the house. I get the exact same offers from the exact same people multiple times in one day.

The Orbitz thing supposedly came to light on Monday, so mine may not be connected. I think they are downplaying it, though.

Alternatively, one of you who has my email address signed me up to get spam because you hate me.

I think they were hoping that someone would take him. If no one will, they can (1) tell him and his agent to shut up about wanting to play elsewhere, since no one else wants him at that price either, and (2) start negotiating with teams for a deal in which they will be stuck with part of his contract.

Why not just ask Watchtower or Fugee to fix you up? No need for the dating service!

Best logline ever:

*Yes, I know it's a post hoc, but they used it as a blurb, so it qualifies.

We're gonna have those too!!!

I'm telling you, we've got big changes in store. The likes of which not seen since Urban II started the Crusades or that great schism after the Council of Florence.

Hold onto your Miters, kids.

or, (3) tell him he has to renegotiate the contract, with a hefty paycut, if he wants to go elsewhere.

they could do (1) or (2) without the waivers. the waivers simply proved that he's overpaid, because he was basically a free-agent with a pre-signed contract. Bear in mind he and his agent knew (or at least supposedly did) know that he would be placed on waivers--Manny wanted to be moved, and the Sox came up with this as step 1. Evidently it didn't work since the waivers have now expired.

Or, taking the cynical view, it helps cap the market for all owners on free-agent negotiations for Vlad Guerrero and the rest. (i.e., if no one wants manny, no strings attached, for $20m, it's unlikely any other player will command that.

I know. I was just trying to get a "its scarier/not" issue. FWIW, I often offer analysis about things I don't know about.

I saw Ringu first, then Ring, then Ringu again. (You will not believe the bullshit I had to go through to get an area 2 copy of Ringu, and then shanghai an all-areas DVD player from a techie friend to watch it.) If you know anything about me by now, it is that I am one serious student of horror films.
I thought Ring was scarier while I was watching it. Ringu disturbed my sleep for longer, and kept me thinking longer. I was very glad, though, I did not see the Ring on video at home on my TV.
I'll give Ringu another try.. we turned it off midstream because we didn't see as strong as Ring. This was after being bugged (whole family-kids not sleeping alone for 2 nights) by Ring.
The best place to see Ring is on a videotape, of course. Preferably, one picked up in some wierd out of the way non-chain rental place in the country.

Where should we put this guy in our rotation?

"One of Cuba's top pitchers defected in an undisclosed country so he can begin playing professionally in the United States, a Cuban exile leader said Friday."

would you consider occasionally blessing a bottle of JW black instead of just the wine? You guys changed how we eat the host, why not a little variety on the blood side?

My thoughts exactly when I saw that article. Perhaps to replace Contreras?

And, I know the first rule of Fight Club is don't talk about fight club, but

Don Zimmer may sign on with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Should make for some entertaining Sox-Rays games, which have spawned several memorable dust-ups in the last couple of years.

Although why Zim wants to spend his last years sitting on the bench of a sorry-ass team that plays in a sarcophagus, I'll never know.

Note to self: Do not watch The Ring.

I have had periodic nightmares ever since I watched The Shining by myself a couple of years ago. I'm not signing up for more of that shit. Apparently some people are just not cut out for the horror film genre.

Taxwonk, if you were my dad (as opposed to my daddy, big boy), I would disown you after that calling up to freak me out thing. But I'm sure your daughter is a mini BRC in the making and she loved it.

No Halloween avatar for me. My flair qualifies as a costume...

Finally, fringey, I liked both Cathy and Lucy better. Probably because an idiot on the TX board has had that Kermit one for a while though.
