Okay.

How? And then do I reinstall XP with the reinstallation CD I got when I bought the computer?

ETA: yeah, I completely fucked things up. Deleted my C Drive partition, etc.

Next up is replacing my sump pump!
Just be careful. I did it and somewehre in there shorted out the motherboard. Then I had to bring it to the local computer shop who, for a $150 emergency fee (which meant I jumped to the head of the repair line instead of waiting three weeks) was able to tell me "Yup. It's broke."

I seem to have run out of storage space for my photo and video files... dunno how that happened. Anyhoo, does anybody have any recommendations for an external hard drive for my HP laptop? They pretty much all look the same to me.

They pretty much are all the same. There is one thing to consider when you are looking for an external drive though. Some drives can be powered by the USB or Firewire port they are plugged into. Other drives require external power (i.e. a power brick leading to the wall).

The USB powered drives tend to be smaller (physically, and storage-wise) and more expensive. They are also slower, but that probably isn't an issue for you unless you work with CAD files or are a gamer. The USB ones are also obviously much more portable (not having to be separately plugged in).

LaCie makes a nice line of silver brick-looking ones that are a fairly good deal, and in relatively small box. They require separate power. Link here, but you can probably get it cheaper if you Google it.

I have an acomdata 250 firewire drive. Pretty happy with it. Separate power.

Do you have firewire? If so, get a firewire drive, not USB. Much faster.

Lacie (not the Porsche ones, though) is good. I'm happy with my Mercury (from Other World Computing)

Speed (800 is twice as fast, in theory, although more like 25-50% faster, if I recall from test results).

FW 400 should be sufficient, but if you have FW800 on your computer, you should get such a drive. (it's a 9-pin cable, instead of 6 pin, but you can get cables to connect FW800 to FW400--they're compatible).

Also comes in black. Nice specs, too.

I don't know, I prefer it to the white. Reminds me of the Pismo days.

Well, you'll pay a $200 premium (slightly less because of bigger hard drive). That's some coin just because Black is Beautiful.

I have a 12" powerbook. To me though,I would opt for the 15 inch mac book pro as it's worth the premium to get a lit up keyboard. Makes it easier to search for porn in total darkness.

My ideal machine would be a black 12" MacBook Pro.
