Borderline? Wow. You're being generous.

Definite musical genius, but I haven't understood him for at least 10 years...

And Crazy Horse can't play, yet together they somehow make up one of the most kick-ass rawk 'n' roll experiences you can have.

Yes, I realize half the fun of the insult is in the fact that not everyone gets it, so if this is a sort of inside joke that I have to learn on my own, fuck it...

Maybe five or so years ago, I saw him in concert and he was surprisingly articulate. What really struck me, though, was his guitar playing. I usually think of him as a lyricist that I totally didn't realize how good he was as a musician.

Did anyone see Masked and Anonymous? I missed it when it came through here.

Maybe I'm being too critical of Dylan. After all he is getting really old, and these guys can't sound good forever...

One of my favorite musical icons is Brian Wilson, and while frankly I'm just happy he's still alive, he still sounds shaky from the years of mental illness and medicating (prescribed and otherwise).

Edited to add: One of my favorite covers of all time is Brian Wilson covering BNL's "Brian Wilson".

Would have been great if he sang it like: "I'm lying in bed, just like I did..." but melodically it doesn't work.

The RS 500 list

First, I echo what bilmore said re Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band -- it hit the scene like a thunderbolt when it came out. Plus, it has a really cool cover, and it was the first record I bought for myself (I don't include the three records I received as part of the Columbia Record Club "11 records for a penny" deal that older brother Not Nick roped me into).

Second, e/o is right about all the greatest hits -- no way they should count. The occasional live record (didn't read long enough to see whether Cheap Trick Live in Budokan made it, but it should have), sure, but greatest hit albums aren't albums.

I think that one Led Zeppelin album is two too many, but I realize this is my own personal opinion, and they had a great impact, blah blah blah, but please. Put LZ 4 on the list, and that's it. Same with Hendrix (tho I like him) -- Are You Experienced? should be it.

I can't believe that Steely Dan's Aja ranked as low as it did. Fuck Jann Wenner. And where is Weird Al?

str8, care to back me up?

[This is not to say that I would not live in LA, but it is to say that it would be an adjustment, even coming from Dallas. I think any city with good weather is a place I could live, but that is mainly because I choose not to get caught up in the stuff that I consider to be ridiculous bullshit.]

Almost $4,000,000 on a fucking wedding.
Yes but remember, $150,000 just for the shoes.
Didn't watch it, but it's on Tivo if I should ever desire to scan through it quickly. I don't think I could take 2 hours of wedding talk.

And I don't think ABC footed the whole bill, there was way too much advertising and product pushing for that.

This is what happens when you tell a designer, "money no object." They have a tendency to overdo. Like landscapers and contractors.

then the Sex Pistols should have been way higher than 41, maybe top 10. A 50 year old guy did this list, it is way heavy on things recorded between 65 and 79, but downgrading punk.

Although I hate to break this to paigow, the [cringe] ironic usage of the word "classy" has been in my lexicon since college (and I don't think I knew paigow in college -- unless her name is Amy -- in which case, Hi Amy! -- because she and I would use it in our own little lingo between ourselves -- I know, how "college").

ANYWAY... my use of "classy" is simply meant to indicate something vulgar. Not aimed at one's social status, necessarily.

No real mystery, really.
