You are ahead of me. What is the "DU"?

It's the foundation for Penske's, Slave's, Hank's and bilmore's understanding, however flawed, of the species called "Democrats."
Curiously, none of the self-identified Democrats on this board quote it, support it, or profess to even read it, yet this inconvenient fact doesn't suppress P/S/H/B's enthusiasm for identifying Democrats and what they think Democrats stand for.
I have not read it, but suspect that it's probably an ideologically pure online circle jerk akin to NRO's The Corner.

Yeah, but it's an improvement over when they cited Saddam and Osama as representative of what Democrats stood for. Progress, my friend, progress.
You have to appreciate these small successes where you find them. Why, only yesterday, I congratulated slave for taking the time to apologize for dragging his girlfriend around by the hair.

Okay, but that really IS representative of Repubs. At least based on what I see on this board.*

Sorry, no. If you're worth saving, the Market will find a way.

And if you're not, you have the Second Amendment to fall back on.

I'm not sure about that. A lot of people read the second amendment as focused on the rights of the states to maintain a militia (and a "well-regulated" one at that), and not on a right in the individual per se.
By the way, the rights enumerated in the second are both to "keep" and to "bear" arms. What is the difference?

Well, in DC I'm technically allowed to keep guns in my house, but I'm not allowed to carry them anywhere withing the city, including to/from house to another state.

Where's the popcorn?
This is one of those kick back with a beer and watch the spectcle unfold moments:
Quote:
Congress could help pay for rebuilding efforts in Mississippi and other areas hit by Hurricane Katrina if it halted the $700 billion Medicare prescription drug program, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott said Tuesday.
Lott, R-Miss., told reporters his vote in November 2003 for the Medicare drug program, which has nearly doubled its projected cost, was one of two he most regretted in his 34 years on Capitol Hill.
The new Medicare drug benefit is scheduled to take effect in January. President Bush and House Majority leader Tom DeLay say the program is too far along to stop.
Lott was unconvinced by that argument.
"I never saw anything you couldn't stop if you made up your mind to," he said.
Lott made his comments before heading into a Senate Republican policy lunch, where the topic was how to pay for Katrina rebuilding efforts. Guests included DeLay, R-Texas, Vice President Dick Cheney and President Bush's budget chief Josh Bolten.
Earlier in the day, DeLay said rebuilding efforts in Mississippi, Alabama and New Orleans could be less than the $200 billion original estimate. He added that GOP leaders would still look for budget cuts to satisfy fiscal conservatives who want offsets for the Katrina spending.
Lott said lawmakers should reconsider extending some tax cuts because they would reduce federal revenues. However, he said Congress should extend expiring tax cuts that benefit families with children. He did not offer examples of those taxes.
"You have to be careful," he said, "because some of these tax cuts, if they are not extended, it means families with children will have taxes go up. That's the wrong thing to do at the wrong time."
|
I wonder how many other Republicans will be joining the President on Mr. Lott's rebuilt porch.
