Str8, if you truly were an insider, you would recognize this as "method acting". You know, its what Bobby DeNiro has perfected. But I guess Bobby is a wackadoo too. You should see him bogart the cashews at parties.

I bet you can't wait to hear my advice, can you? Leave the name to the parents. Although there have been studies done that show having a black-sounding name keeps you from landing job interviews or loans, deblackifying* him for his own good isn't the answer.
Hell, I think Damareus is a cool name. Semaj ain't bad either.

WNTW? Who knew what thiis acronym stood for? I thought it was a radio station.
Anyway, that reminds me. I saw an episode of this and there was some middleaged spinster broad who was fully titsout in a dress and one of the two gals (dont know which is which) said that she just wanted to squeeze her tits and the lady said "come here and kiss them" (or lick them?) and the What Not To Wear lady DID. IS she gay, or is this kind of tit worship normally done by hetero ladies in Britain?

One of my guardian babies is getting adopted. His first name is Damareus -- slightly uncommon but easy to pronounce. His pre-adoptive parents (who have fairly common first names themselves) mentioned that they thought his name was too different and want to change it. To.....Semaj (pronounced Seh-MAHZH; it is James backwards). The mom mentioned that they might put his name down as Semaj/James in case James would be better for him in business when he gets older.
First question: If they write his name down on the official papers as "Semaj/James," that would be his official first name, right? And have to go on his social security card and drivers license etc.? I want to be sure of that before I tell them they might want to pick one or the other or do something that doesn't involve a slash.

If you want to change the name, change it to Winthrop or something.

Well, Str8 must still be recovering from the excitement of getting to watch both his crush (Penis-nose) and the the man who makes his wife's loins moist (Matthew "Smarm" Metzger) perform last night.
Here are my predictions for who will go through:
George Huff will get the most votes so he will be America's wildcard pick. Randy will choose Jennifer Hudson. Paula will choose Leah LaBelle (curse her soul) and Simon will pick Matthew Metzger (and I will weep).
I tried to make a bet with PP about the winner of the popular vote but she is so convinced of my infallibility in all matters AI that she wouldn't wager even one drink on whether George wins the popular vote.
|
Gee those predictions sound awfully familiar. And the reasons I wouldnt bet you is not your infallibility but your teenage fan club website cruising tendencies. Barely legal indeed.
and I only got one call in for George last night so your "sources" better be right.
Now, as I mentioned to barely, why is it that a fat black chick is okay but a fat white chick is not? Is this some kind of reverse race sizism? I dont recall even seeing any white manblimps this or last season go through, but Ruben won. Is this bc we thought Rerun was funny on What's Happening?
And yes Jennifer Hudson has a great voice, but when she isnt singing she has got to be the stupidest looking person and cross-eyed to boot, I have ever seen. Like a crack baby. Like SHE is American Idol material but scooter girl wasnt ? And thanking the jesus? Hey Jennifer, I think he is busy with other things, like promoting his movie. I dont see how he ihas time to help you win on AI. It didnt workfor Michael Chang and it aint working for you. But thanks for playing.
I cant tell the two white chicks apart. Except that the one who went first was a bettet singer. THe second one blew. I agreed with Simon on Leah Labelle. Not impressed and that handtapping on the microphone. Just dont. She is a little arrogant also . The whole group is just nauseating, but for George and his sweet smile.

Dear Abby - smut peddler
Quote:
DEAR ABBY: I have heard many men fantasize about hooking up with a nymphomaniac. Speaking as someone with 20/20 hindsight, I advise any man who meets one to run!
I was married to a woman with that problem, and at first I did think I was in heaven. I didn't learn about the downside until much later.
Every day after I left for work, another man spent the day with my wife. And when I went into the military, she disappeared. I later learned that she was frequenting bars, having encounters with anyone and everyone who would, and contracting multiple STDs in the process. At the time I was very angry at her. I now realize she was driven by an addiction over which she had no control.
So, unless you are prepared to spend every minute of every day with a nymphomaniac, expect to share -- with the world. -- OLDER AND WISER
DEAR OLDER AND WISER: As your letter proves, sometimes there CAN be too much of a good thing. What's the old saying, "Moderation in all things"? It's true.

I'm relying on an admittedly fuzzy memory here, but I thought Rat explained in the movie that it was the only Zeppelin album (of his brother's) that he could find.
Thus reinforcing the fact that he was a dork.

Because he insists on having everyone call him James wherever he goes, right?
But the point is not whether a black person can have a generic-sounding name. Of course they can. I just disagree with homogenizing everyone so that they can safely integrate with the dominant culture. If Semaj or Laquetia or Laronda sounds stupid to white people, so what? If people can't pronounce your name, tell them how to do it. Who wants a world full of the same four John, James, Michael, Peter type names?

I was going to share credit with you, but I didn't think you'd want to be associated with the creation of such a post. See what I get for trying to protect your hard-as-nails image?
Besides, the only person you convinced me to change my mind about was Matthew Metzger. And that's only b/c I hate him so much that I refuse to predict anything good might happen to him. The fucker is engaged to Miss Ohio (probably a state full of uggos, but still) and tells the judges that his biggest problem is a "lack of confidence." No Asshole, your biggest problem is that you CAN'T FUCKING SING. You're a substitute teacher who got a beauty queen to fuck you -- confidence is not what you are lacking, buster.

Mark my words
This trend should hit DC in about twelve years. Hot on the heels of the goatee and the pomegranate margarita. Hopefully I won't be around to do Maud's vagina monologue.

Hmm. I have no problem with the 30 second conversations involving my name. The subject is ME after all, and I am just self-centered enough to appreciate that topic.
And having a conversation about a person's name makes it that much more memorable. I find it much easier to remember someone's name (even if I have trouble pronouncing it) if it is unusual than if it is Jim or Bob or the like. I think this is because unusual names force the hearer's brain to focus on the name for fractionally longer than common ones do.
Sincerely,
Charo

TiVo "I Love the 80s" on VH1. There's a whole "Where are they now" on Fast Times actors. I can't recall where Damone went.
|
I don't think Cameron Crowe ever explained it, but I have to believe it was intentional. Crowe obviously knows his music, in fact he obsesses over what songs to use at what point in his movies... Clearly it was intended to have Rat screw it up, even though the advice Damone gave him was bad in the first place.
Somebody already posted Robert Romanus' link on IMDB, but last I heard he was on a soap opera... He's working, and that's something in that business, but it must be tough for him at the Fast Times reunion if they got everybody together --
Nic Cage -- Oscar and $$$
Sean Penn -- Oscar and $$$
Jennifer Jason Leigh -- Respected, well-known actress, $$$
Forest Whittaker -- Emmy and Best Actor, Cannes winner, $$$
Judge Reinhold -- cashed in on Beverly Hills Cop movies
Phoebe Cates -- still works occasionally, married to Kevin Kline, $$$
Eric Stoltz -- Golden Globe nominee, $$$
Anthony Edwards -- Emmy and Golden Globe winner, $$$
even Brian Backer, who played Rat, hasn't done much since but has a Tony to his credit...
Tough company for Damone.
