Pee on it?

Did she use the shovel to keep the door shut? That is some creepy shit.

Why were the dogs not neutered????

I though she gave him the shovel to protect himself lest the dogs make their way into the basement.

And the dogs weren't neutered because this woman is a stupid asshole.

I'm stumped. The shovel was "on the door." This woman isn't even clear.

Does this kind of thing lead to charges wherever it is she's from?* Because the school social worker looked at my wife and I kinda funny and asked probing questions when our kid was a little slow going to the potty by herself. I can only imagine the state's level of interest had our kid been mauled and killed by our pet pit bulls after letting herself out of the blockaded basement where we locked her to go grocery shopping.

*ETA: San Francisco, and I see "no charges yet."

I thought she locked the door and left the shovel on it to brace against the door (so it would stay shut even if the kid got it unlocked). Which totally creeped me out.

On another note, I saw Evil Dead on the weekend. I had never seen it before. I enjoyed it. I had a bit of trouble getting to sleep last night though.

We here on the left coast are much more worldly and tolerant than other parts of this great nation. We even have a "one free dead kid" policy in effect. The trade off is that housing prices are kind of high.

She says she wanted puppies.

Also, the news reports that of the last 200 mauling deaths, 198 of the dogs were not spayed or neutered.

Ironweed - at first, there were going to be no charges filed. Sounded like an accident. Then stupid woman talked to reporters and let it slip that Nicky was locked in the basement with shovel propped against the door and told him not to come out. She left adequate food and video games for him. The shovel was there because "Nicky never listens." So that meant, to Child Protective Services, that Nicky had been locked in the basement before and/or the dogs had attacked Nicky before. Thus, the current investigation.

I'll swally yer soul! I'll swally yer soul!!!

Now you're ready to rent Evil Dead II, one of the funniest horror-movie campfests ever to spray jellied brains on a rustic cabin wall. Absofuckinglutely brilliant. Or at least I thought so when I was 15. Not that I think I would feel any differently today, mind you.

That seems right. She said, "I locked him down there, with a shovel on the door." She misused the word "with," which should denote that the shovel was with the kid. What she meant to say was "and I used a shovel to block the door." The shovel was really "with" her, in a sense.

See, Coltrane, it just goes to show you where poor verbal skills can lead. A grammar timmy would never engage in such poor parenting.

That's fair. Puppies are so much cuter than 12 year old boys.

She said that there were plastic bags of clothes (the family was moving) that she thought the dogs would destroy.

And NFH, I don't think the issue is so much locking him in the basement, but knowingly leaving him alone in the house with a dog that any reasonable person would suspect might become aggressive, evidenced by her locking the kid in the basement. Having unneutered pit bulls should be, in itself, reason for concern about the person's judgment. In fact, any unneutered large male dog can be a danger, even a golden retriever.

Is Evil Dead II the one with the lab dog that came back to life post-taxidermy while nailed to a board or was that Return Of The Living Dead? BRC? The movie with that scene was actually campy enough for me to enjoy it as a kid and I am a total scary movie wimp. Let's not even talk about the time I thought it would be a good idea to watch The Shining by myself late one night. Bad dreams for months.
