Watching Ruben get a little worse every week is not. He was pretty lame yesterday. He had phlegm in his throat and he was consistently sharp. I think he could put out a nice CD, but I can't imagine he's have the stamina to tour and put on a live show that will keep people awake for 90 minutes.

I totally agree. Ruben has never been my favorite, but lately he has been sucking. I thought he would get SLAMMED by the judges after his performance last night and was surprised when they let it slide. I think Ruben should go home, Kim should stick around a bit, and Clay should win.
I \|/ Clay.

(By the way, did anyone see that special on the folks who cheated on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?). I don't think that there'd be any blatant tampering going on like NCS suggests. That said, I think there's TONS of subtle tampering on all reality shows. On viewer-vote shows, I think the editing steers the audience to vote for the producer's choice (aka the Julia DiMato incident). On shows like Bachelor, they can send one couple on a date to rainy Phoenix, and another to Hawaii. Oops, well maybe that's not such a good example. But y'all know what I'm saying.

I don't think Joe $$ and Mr. Personality are really set up as game shows. Unless you count Evan and Hayley as a prize, but that is pushing it. They are more the dating show genre. The fact that the producers gave Evan and the Disneyesque chick $$ was not disclosed so they weren't really playing for it. If the network told Evan and Hayley who to pick had them sign something saying that they would keep it confidential, who would be the wiser? I don't know that this happens, but it certainly doesn't seem implausible to me.
Heck, some of the recent Blind Date episodes have appeared very staged to me. I think that networks may be finding the scripting/set-ups make better "reality" than reality.
That is different than a game show contestant trying to steal money from the show. This is more show-sponsored.

Maybe I am not looking at this right, but are the dots the buttocks, the equal signs the feet, and the arrows bent legs? If yes, the meaning of the bumper sticker changes slightly to "Come Fuck Me, Ed."

I once saw Carl Pavano pitch a nice game against the Phils with 800 mean looking francophones at Olympic Stadium in 1999. Pavano was positively Smoltz-esque.
By all accounts Annika had a good variety of tournaments to choose from. I thought it odd that she chose the Colonial, which is one of the longer courses on the tour, but apparently she thinks it suits her game nicely. She has played it before in LPGA tournaments, in which many of the holes are identical to the set-up for the PGA event. But why would she choose a 7,100 yarder? Even so, I don't expect her to miss many fairways, and if she putts well, and the cut is par or worse, she'll make the cut. If this turns out to be one of those events where the cut is five-under, I don't think she'll make the cut.
This board certainly proves that the sponsors were right to let her in.

I was drawing a cat, but ABBA showed me that there certainly is more than one perception. Hers is a much funnier interpretation.

Buffy (not new thread)
Yeah, pretty damn boring. Faith's "good thing we're hot chicks with superpowers" line almost saved the last bit of one scene, but, on second thought, not. Usually, I can get by all the mushy crap they've been putting in Spike's mouth by focusing on his general hotness, but this time it was so bad I just wanted someone to stick his ass under a sunlamp.
The finale had better kick ass, because, as things stand, Joss Whedon is heading up there in my list of people I will bitchslap if I ever meet them on the street. He's not in spitting distance of my front runner, the "only thing I like better than doing the crossword ..." woman, but he's pissing me off. A lot.

It was genius of the sponsors. The Colonial has very poor fan turnout typically because it is in Fort Worth the week after the Byron Nelson in Irving which gets huge turnouts (Tiger always plays the Byron and Byron Nelson is still alive so a lot of big names come to play and to shake his hand as they walk off the course). I'm hoping to make it to the Colonial before the cut if I can make it out of work just to say I saw her play. Would never have thought to attend otherwise.
I think that a sponsor's exemption should be used by the sponsors as they see fit. I don't buy that she is keeping some more qualified person out. More likely some less qualified (but connected) hack. The sponsors will make some serious cash (in ticket sales and tv time) for this decision... Not to mention the free marketing from all the news outlets.

This just means you both suck.
And brilliant analysis. The skill in the game comes from consistency? Really? That's my point. You will consistently hit the green and be closer to the pin using a wedge or an 8 or 9 iron. You will not be as consistent using a 4 or 5 iron. That is why the big hitters have such an advantage now.
Even on a short par four (450 yards is now considered short), many male golfers will hit a huge drive and have either a nine iron or wedge into the green. The ball's flight is high and you can put more spin on it. This means they will have more control. Sorenstam will be hitting a 6 iron or lower in and the ball (because of physics, not her inability to be consistent) will not have as much spin on it, there will be a higher likelihood of error with the longer club, etc. She will have less control.
Also, the biggest weakness in her game is putting. She makes up for it on the LPGA with her big drives (relatively speaking). Clearly she won't be in that position against the field at The Colonial, will she?

Smoltz said as much on ESPN's hot seat or whatever that stupid new segment is.
And the last time Tiger played with her, he beat her by 10 strokes in one round.

Speaking of sports, no-one's arguing that golf qualifies as one, are they? I mean, it helps to be fit, but you're basically walking at a really slow pace or riding in a little cart with your caddy doing all the lifting, with the occasional big swing, right? And there are a lot of out-of-shape looking pro golfers.
I certainly think it's an incredible skill, but a sport, it ain't.
