I hope this happened early enough in the evening for you to recast.

My freshman year, I hooked up with a longtime friend and her smell, while not foul, was incredibly strong. A couple of seniors in my fraternity had agreed to lend me their room for a couple of hours so I could have some privacy. The smell must have lingered after my friend and I left, because they were quick to comment on this later. I hooked up with this friend on prior and subsequent occasions and that was the only time her odor was so prominent. My mileage varied.

It's common knowledge that Pettitte is going to Houston? I don't think so. We made him an offer that's $3 million over the Houston offer and it's a preliminary offer. He's waiting to see if we up it (which I'm sure we will if we don't land one other big-time pitcher). I haven't seen it written anywhere that it was even close to probable that he would walk away from the Yankees for less money. I've seen articles saying that his wife is pressuring him to move back, but that's about it.

It was a very, very painful time, especially '81 and '86. And when Mattingly guaranteed a pennant if we signed Jack Clark before the '88 season -- only to have him hit like 240 or something with less than 100 rbi -- I was very disappointed. Finished fucking 5th.

Steinbrenner spent like a fiend, but was an idiot and never built anything back then. But I was a die-hard fan anyway. And my favorite sports memory (before game 7 against the sox this year) was going to the last Yankee game of the season in '84 when the batting title was still up in the air and Mattingly beat out Winfield, going 4 for 5 (even though I was rooting for Winfield). This was back when you could sneak down to the good seats in the later innings and the ushers didn't care. That's when I used to know every stat for every player on the team and would get to the stadium early, glove in hand, hoping for a batting practice ball.

Was I rooting for them in the lean times? Hell yeah.

I don't see how one thing follows another. I didn't care that much about Kaz Matsui because I didn't know a damn thing about him. I think most of New York felt this way. And he certainly wasn't anywhere near a priority. He would have been a second baseman. I think I prefer giving Soriano a little more time to grow and develop before shipping him to the outfield. And I guarantee you Soriano puts up bigger numbers in every category (except fielding percentage) next year. I can't speak to how Steinbrenner felt about "losing" him to the Mets. He was probably pissed. But that's no surprise.

As for losing to the Marlins, yeah it hurt. But there was tremendous satisfaction taken from stomping on the Red Sox's heads again. I was at the game and it was like nothing I've ever experienced. Would I have liked for the Yanks to win the World Series? Of course. But I'm not going to lose sleep over it. We still have plenty of rings, the Red Sox (although looking strong) are still cursed and the Yankees are still the team to beat in MLB.

All is right with the world.

On the prior occassion maybe the rotted tampon was not there or had not rotted yet. On the subsequent occassion maybe the rotted tampon had been removed.
