Oh no. You've mixed up bacon and fellatio in some subconscious mind meld. I blame myself. Silver lining? I suppose the future Mr. fringey may find one.

So it turns out that white men can jump, but they definitely shouldn't. {Spree: description of injury; happy ending of the non-massage type.}

1989 College Hoop

AdL wrote: "The question then becomes, will we see shades of the Illini team of Marcus Liberty, Kenny Battle, Nick Anderson, and Kendal Gill (still, for my money, the most athletically gifted college hoops team I've ever seen), who got so close but lost in the semi on a tip-in by a freshman on the buzzer? Can anyone on Lousville play Glenn Rice and Rummeal Robinson? Or are the Illini for real?"

Was 1989 a watershed March Madness year or what? Or perhaps it's just that we're all of a certain age that we'd look back fondly at 1989. But damn, I can remember quite a bit about that Illinois team (enough to remember that Marcus Liberty didn't start -- he came off the bench -- the starting five were Anderson, Battle, Gill, Lowell Hamilton and Bardo. And that Michigan team that made the run under Steve Fischer of course. Great fucking stuff.

So despite being #3984 in all of ESPN for one shining moment, I need Michigan State to beat Louisville to win my lousy former-law-firm 90 person pool. Damn Kentucky. I still think that Sparks got fouled as he made that 3. Damn refs.

Rock on.
Screw Motley Crue, the shows to see of late have been Louis XIV and/or Stars. Get your Harcourt on.

So that brings me to my real point. Anyone catch the first Grey's Anatomy? I could and should totally be a music supervisor for one of these shows. I would kick ass. I'd take my five favorite songs being played on KCRW and use them as background and/or opening title music (hey it's that Rilo Kiley song about "bad news"!). That point aside, I enjoyed the show very much. Great to see a cute, strong, sexually promiscuous young lady (the chick from Old School . . . no not that one, the older one) as the lead in a drama. Wonder how that will play in the red states? Sandra Oh is great, the nazi doctor is terrific, lots of good performances and good writing. Big thumbs up.

Someone should turn this into a sitcom episode. Hilarity ensues!
Been done. Larry Sanders, "Pain Equals Funny," 1997. Hilarity did in fact ensue.

Posting links to Pitchfork reviews slamming bands that Str8 and other FBers like is way past its sell-by date, and besides, I kind of like Louis XIV, although I'm not sure if it is just a passing guilty pleasure or whether they actually have staying power, and also the review, while only giving Illegal Tender a 4.8 out of 10 rating, is a bit ambiguous if you read the narrative as to what the reviewer dude actually thinks about the band, or at least whether he likes them or not.

Oh, what the hell, here it is:

O.K., while I was on the Pitchfork site, I decided to look up Stars (Stars is from MONTREAL!!! -- does eveyone have a CD from a band from MONTREAL!!! yet??? -- if not, run out and get one ASAP because MONTREAL!!! is H. O. T.!!!!!!!) , and they got a really nice review! So, I'll post the link here just to prove that the snide fucks at Pitchfork don't hate every band Str8 recommends, although I personally find Stars to be a little cloying and am a little skeptical of any review that contains this sentence: "But hopefully those ready-made invitations to backlash won't overshadow Stars, and we can appreciate them for what they are: A complex and capable band who suffuses pedestrian topics with innocence and intrigue."
