ESPN Insider:
"Dec. 11 - ESPN's Peter Gammons reports the hard feelings between Garciaparra and the Red Sox over the team's attempts to trade for Alex Rodriguez could lead the team to deal its star shortstop even if it doesn't acquire A-Rod. Rather than enter the season with Garciaparra due to become a free agent and unhappy with management, Boston could deal him to the Dodgers, then make a run at Miguel Tejada in free agency.
Red Sox owner John Henry and Garciaparra's agent, Arn Tellem, have exchanged hostilities through the media this week over the way Boston has handled its flirtation with A-Rod and a proposed contract extension for Garciaparra. Tellem called the A-Rod maneuverings a "slap in the face" to Nomar, while Henry said Tellem had made it clear "there is no common ground" for a new contract for the player.
Boston has been discussing various trade scenarios involving Nomar, but until now it was thought any deal would be contingent on Boston getting Rodriguez from Texas in exchange for Manny Ramirez. Now, though, the team might decide to deal Nomar anyway.
___________
Dec. 11 - Having lost Andy Pettitte to the Astros, the Yankees are stepping up their efforts to acquire Brown from the Dodgers for Jeff Weaver. Such a move would save L.A. some $15 million over the next two seasons, possibly enabling them to acquire Nomar Garciaparra from Boston or make a serious run at Miguel Tejada.
Previous reports of the Yankees' interest in Brown suggested New York could agree to agree to eat some of Weaver's salary to further sweeten the deal for L.A., but those reports also indicated the Dodgers might want another player, too. The Newark Star-Ledger suggested the deal could be broadened, sending Brown and Adrian Beltre to New York for Weaver, Aaron Boone and cash.
___________
Dec. 11 - If the Dodgers don't get Nomar Garciaparra from Boston but are able to unload Kevin Brown to the Yankees, they could use the salary space that deal frees up to make a run at Tejada. But L.A. will have to out-bid Seattle and Baltimore to get him.
Seattle already has offered Tejada three years and $24-25 million, and the Baltimore Sun cited a "high-ranking Orioles official" as saying the Orioles would definitely top that offer. Of course, the Mariners reportedly also told Tejada to give them a chance to beat whatever other offers he receives.
Oakland offered Tejada arbitration, but GM Billy Beane has said it is "probably unrealistic" to think the shortstop will re-sign with Oakland. Anaheim was thought to be a contender to land Tejada, but the Angels have spent a lot of money on pitching and might not be able to afford a big-ticket position player. And the Tigers have said they are prepared to overpay to lure a player such as Tejada."
___________
Here's how it will shake out. We'll give up Weaver and some other scrub for Brown and eat his contract. LA will sign Nomar because Baltimore or Seattle will sign Tejada. ARod will stay put. Manny will dog it next year more than he did this year.

All this talk about trading Nomar has made me depressed. I'm holding out on my season ticket purchase until most of the dust settles.

Irony becomes you.
(I mean, it doesn't actually, you know, like "turn into" you, in the sense that you used to be irony and now you're something else, that's not the "become" I meant, of course, it's more like saying that it just seems nice and meet and proper that someone who starts out writing "It is so much nicer when they get along" then moves into the zinger alert stuff. It's, like, irony.)

Basically the premise was that b/c DK is older/mature, whatever, the ratings folks must find it not as likely to turn on the under 17 crowd, thus safer for them to view. Any thoughts?

Well, fair is fair. If Nicholson can show his ample breasts, why not Keaton?

I don't even know what Alec Baldwin skit you are talking about. I think I must actually be doing a cheap rip-off of someone doing a cheap rip-off of an Alec Baldwin skit. I am so meta. Anyway, not me, I think maybe you should watch a little less TV. Get out and get some exercise or something. It might make you a little less cranky, and it is the holiday season and all. I recommend kayaking. Very calming. And great upper body workout. I don't actually kayak myself, but I have been meaning to do so, what with all the 10,000 lakes and everything, which are unfrozen for several months out of every year.

I was not being ironic. I genuinely think I zinged not me. It did not even know the word "riff." I get the sense that not me is really much of a music fan despite its strongly held opinions on the subject.

I meant to have a not back there in that other post. "Not really much of a music fan."
