Disagree. All things equal, a hot girl outsells a "hot" guy because they automatically appeal to a broader demographic. I can't think of any white male contestant from the previous shows that most women would think was "hot", can you? -- Clay ain't it.
Besides, the overall disparity in talent between the women and the men this time is staggering, and Simon has clearly been favoring the ladies.

I thought she was black -- (she was certainly cafe-au-lait, but I digress -- I wasn't paying attention that closely.) She's frankly a better choice than the other two.
I also said America would pick George, meaning Paula probably goes for Matthew, but that if George wasn't chosen by America for some reason, she'd definitely take him.
No argument that Randy picks Jennifer H.

All right. Vulaca sounded Samoan/Pacific Islander, but she is hard to place, even with pictures of mom and dad.
Back to Katie. It was obvious from the pics of her mom, that her freakish nose is a family thing and not a plastic surgery nightmare. And I really wanted Leah to do better, because she seems to have potential, she just didn't pull it off last night. When we were watching her it occured to me that she gives the impression that she's a big sleaze. I don't know what about her gives me that impression, but she does.

I can't believe no one has said anything about Jon Peter the hobbit! I loved him last night. I did miss hearing his higher register, though.
I also loved George, and I'm glad you all agree--I love the tone of his voice.
My third pick is, of course, Jennifer Hudson. The vocal coach was absolutely right about controlling the "gospel jaw"--it's a terrible affectation. Simon was in this same ballpark when he talked about the importance of control. She's got a great instrument, but some bad habits (not to mention terrible fashion sense! She should just let the stylists tell her what to wear). And I think she only looks cross-eyed because of her excessive eyeliner.
No one else did much for me. Suzy Vulaca (who's Fijian, not at all African) did all right, but didn't overwhelm me with her confidence. Elizabeth Letendre has gained even MORE weight. Katie Webber sounded awful. Matthew Metzger was there because of his looks alone--his vocals SUCKED.
And Leah "Labelle," well, I just don't know where to start with her. She is OVER-confident, and overdoing it. She tries way too many tricks, bending and pushing notes, without a clear sense of how they come across through the sound system. She sounds shaky and tentative, when really she's just being overfussy. She does have pretty good natural talent, but needs a serious producer/coach to slap her around a little.
No one said anything about the singers who were cut. Okay, it took as long to get rid of them as it would have taken to just let them sing! Stupid Fox. The only surprise elimination was Lisa Leuschner (instead of Matthew Metzger, who should have been ditched). I never heard her sound anything but great. My sister has a theory that maybe she was the only one who wasn't willing to take constructive criticism and make small changes--that was a recurring theme in the judges' comments to those who performed last night.

PS Don't believe everything you read on that silly Mormon names site. Those may be ACTUAL names that people in Utah have bestowed upon their children, but very few of them (and none of the most outlandish ones) really are quintessential Utah Mormon names.

Not here! I've bought 2 CDs based on raves from posters who always said stuff about music that I agreed with. Neither will be listened to much in the future*.

Okay, I'll say something. I hated him. It reminded me of an impersonation rather than actually hearing him sing. And the "dancing"? My God, the "dancing"!
But I will give him credit, it was a gutsy song selection, and he looked like he had fun with it.

You have been serially posting marginally-interesting news links for so long that even the schtick of getting on your case for doing so is getting old. So I'm not going to do that. But, please, a post that says "80's (sic) making a comeback"? I expect your next post to say "Mojitos enjoying wave of popularity" or "Electroclash beginning to find an audience in New York." Didn't we beat to death the pros and cons of the 80s revival over a year ago. In fact, I think it was during this original debate that it first came out that I despise Simon TheGood and his femme-y little band of synth-bots. This is just inexcusable.

But you're all wrong about the picks. George gets America's vote. Unless a bunch of guys voted this week, then Katie Webber is America's choice. Simon picks Suzy Vulaca (pronounce Voo lah tha) Randy picks Jennifer pink-dress-monstrosity Hudson and Paula is a wild card. She'll pick George if Katie is voted or if George is voted, then she'll go for Leah or Mathew.
|
That dress was beyond awful. She looked much better wearing jeans and a leather jacket in the rehearsal shots. And she needs more coaching on presentation, especially facial expression. Still, she was the best singer of the night and is sure to get through whether by audience vote or judge's pick. All three like her so it doesn't matter who picks her.
I thought George did much better and he's a lock to get through, either by audience or the judges.
The other two depend on who gets the viewer vote. Randy and Paula liked Jon Peter and Simon didn't. I didn't care for his singing or his dancing. None of the judges liked Nose Girl and Simon didn't think Elizabeth, the other pretty blond, had "it." I thought the girls sang well but don't think any of these three will go on.
I liked Suzy V. again and she is a possible Simon pick, depending on who Randy and Paula pick.
Leah didn't support the soft parts in her song but pulled it out in the loud parts. She's also a possible judge's pick.
Matt is so cute, the record contract people are probably praying he will keep going. He doesn't have the voice but a lot could be done in the studio and he'd be a teen heart-throb. If this is a singing competition, he shouldn't move on. But the goal is to sell records so he's a possibile judge's pick.
My predictions: George and Jennifer will definitely make it.
The third slot will go to either Leah or Suzy, unless the viewer pick wasn't George or Jennifer in which case it is one of them. If it's Paula's vote, she'd pick Leah over Suzy.
The fourth slot will go to either the woman who didn't get the third slot or Matthew. I also predict that Randy and Paula will take the obvious picks, leaving Simon to pick someone he thinks isn't quite good enough to move on, as they did after Round 3 when he had to pick Tiara. If the woman is Suzy, I could see Simon pick Matthew for the teen girl marketing angle.
My picks would be Jennifer, George, Suzy and Leah but I don't think that's going to happen.

Uck, he sucked. I will admit though that I didn't see the entire song because I had to scan through it. I'll give him credit for making the judges laugh - I guess you get points for that.

Excuse me, but I mentioned Lisa Whathersname when I said why fat black chicks are allowed to pass but fat white chicks are not. She is fat and therefore invisible and silent. White women must be sexy whereas black womene apparently do not need to be. I dont get it and they aint my rules. And Jennifer Hudson's crosseyedness has to be more of a function of her trying to think than eyeliner. Its just bizarre. Looking at her is disturbing and I think I need to root against her as a result.
And your guy was just dreadful. I was embarrassed for him. Dave Chappelle should use him for his next White People Can't Dance segement.

You're not my SP anymore. ![Frown](http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif) I did not like his performance at all last night. I thought the song was out of his range and the dancing, oh boy! I heard the performance Simon heard and you heard the performance that Randy and Paula heard. I wonder how they did that.
You are correct about Leah and her vocal tricks. I think she may get picked on the basis of her natural talent with the idea that the vocal coach can work with her.

I take it you did not enjoy "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" or "Black Shuck"? De gustibus non disputandum est.
Octoped, you've got six hands too many
And you can't keep them to yourself
You're too fat and too old to marry
So they left you on the shelf
Oh, I've got no right to lay claim to her frame
But you soiled my obsession
You cunt.
Yeah!
Get your hands off my woman, motherfucker
Get your hands off my woman, motherfucker
Yeah!
