There is some guy in the Bush administration (William Cohen?) -- I think he's some sort of military dude -- who disclaims being Jewish.
Cohen is a quintessential Jewish name, as it confers special "status" because it means you are a descendant of a "high priest" from biblical times. All bets are off, however, if dad marries a shiksa.

True, I don't know any Hundu or Muslim Cohens. However, I know a bunch or "bergers" who are German and a Rosenthal who was a Lutheran. There are a whole lot of German names which sound Jewish floating around. I also know a bunch of Smiths who are Jews.
What does this all mean, anyway... I didn't read the thread.

And you can run for president with a name like John Forbes Kerry and still be Jewish. Weird that.

Maybe they'll end up with the Rosie O'Donnell judge:

Being from Rosslyn makes it more likely that someone is Jewish? I must not have gotten that memo.

Trading Spaces
For me, it jumped the shark the year before with Laurie's 3000th consecutive yellow, beige, and orange room.
Bad design, bad tv.
I prefer Designer's Challenge, Divine Design (though only with the sound off, she's so freakin irritating), and Design on a Dime.

Club sports
I saw Bend it like Beckham the other day, and it brought back fond memories of playing on a team. So I started looking around on the web, and lo and behold, there are a few women's teams of my sport of choice looking for players of all levels of experience.
The last time I played on a regular basis was when I was in law school. I'm not in anywhere near the shape that I was in back then, but I am working out a lot more lately than I have in the intervening years. I think I'll check out the team sometime in January, when the season starts up again.
Does anyone here play club sports? Is it possible to keep up with practices and matches and stuff while doing the law gig?

My guess is it's a typo and PP was referring to Roslyn, Long Island, New York, and in that case, yes, if by more likely, you mean more likely to be Jewish than a person from Roslyn, Washington, or wherever they filmed that Northern Exposure show, and probably also more likely than a person from Rosslyn, Va.

It's not one of the Five Towns. Lawrence, Hewlett, Woodmere, Cedarhurst, and Bashful.

I have desperately tried to find a team since leaving law school. Until that happens, I continue to train alone but in earnest.
I can still recall the look of pride in the eyes of my parents as they viewed the plaque on the wall in the bar beside my law school which proclaimed the alcoholic achievements of me and my teammates. They never could get real excited about my law review conquests but "bar review" they could grasp.

Bashful? Is this a joke? Rosslyn isnt a five town? what about syosset?
I went to tennis camp in Westhampton waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day and there were kids from these towns and it was like beig around aliens-=that's how different they were from anyone I had ever met. their own lingo, their own mannerisms. first thing out of their mouth "hi, I am stacey. are you jewish?" huh? much different than folks from other more tradiionally jewish enclaves in Jersey or Westchester. its some kind of special five towns thing.
