Here's how it will shake out. We'll give up Weaver and some other scrub for Brown and eat his contract. LA will sign Nomar because Baltimore or Seattle will sign Tejada. ARod will stay put. Manny will dog it next year more than he did this year.

Yep.
And where is Baltimore all of a sudden getting all this money to go after both Vlad and Tejada? Amazing.

Takes one to know one.
Next question: Does Pedro react negatively to no longer being THE ace in Boston? Or does he bring his game up to the old level to compete with Schilling. I bet he has a few shitty outings and phones it in -- thinking he can turn it on in the playoffs.

Asbestos litigation. But they won't sign both, if even one. They always had the money, See Albert Belle, just not the willingness to spend it.

Agreed. Though it was probably because of Albert Belle that they became unwilling to spend it.

No way Tejada goes to Baltimore. He saw what happened to ARod, being stuck playing for a loser. He'd have to be able to stand getting his ass kicked by the Red Sox and the Yankees all year and at the same time tell people, "it not about the money."

Yeah, we've been saving up. Really all Baltimore needs is a decent shortstop, a 1, 2, and a 4 pitcher, and catcher who can hit above .200, and we're okay. It'll pay for itself. The fans will come back, and they'll sell out Camden Yards most nights so long as the team can stay over .500.
We were considered a big-market team til Aneglos decided to simulatneously lower payroll by 50% and jack up ticket prices 40%, then wondered why average attendance dropped from north of 45k a game to 30k.

That hurts. With a decent hitting shortstop and a good come-out-of nowhere pitcher, Baltimore could be a contender in any division that doesn't include Boston and NY. Unfortunately, it is in a division with Boston and NY, so we need a couple of pitchers to do it. But it's possible in a year or two, with some good following trades.

Anything other than baseball?
bilmore, do you have any good kayaking stories?
Here's the only remaining tidbit of news I have stored up to report (except for some reality tv stuff that noone but me cares about) -- Elvis Costello and Diana Krall got hitched over the weekend. Who knew they were even dating? I guess maybe the Paltrow-Martin secret nuptials haven't been covered yet either.
How sad am I today that half of my posts have been about weddings? Pretty damn sad.
In movie not-so-news, I saw About Schmidt the other day and loved it. Jack Nicholson's best work since Cuckoo's Nest. Not sure if the totally nude Kathy Bates was worthy of an R rating, but apparently she turns the young kids on.

That's all of a drop they experienced considering the magnitude of the O's suckitude? I'm impressed (not kidding here), or do they doctor the attendance #'s making the distinction between actual gate and "paid attendance" or whatever other B.S. measure teams use.
I went to a few games last year that when my team announced the attendance, I instantly blurted out NO FUCKING WAY.

Who cares? Any movie with a totally nude Kathy Bates (or Oprah Winfrey) should have the scene excised or the entire movie should be summarily tossed into the wastebin.

After further review, I hadn't realized the Os had trade Hentgen and Lightenberg to the Bluejays. I take it back. We've got no pitching, and we're doomed.
On the plus side, free tickets will once again be easy to come by next season.

The Sox and Yankees sell out the place for 19 of the 81 home games--that helps keep the numbers up. The Wizards are the ones doctoring the numbers. I refuse to pay for any more of their games now that I know they just give away the tickets.

We shared the other white meat, cheese, and held hands once, I'm not sure if that qualifies as knowing really well but the compliment is appreciated nonetheless.

I have an O.K. kayaking story. My friend was just getting into kayaking (it really is a quite popular activity here in Minnesota), and he was going out to a local city lake for his, like, third time ever in his kayak. As he is driving the mile or two to the lake, he decides that this lake is boring. So he decides to drive to another, less boring lake. He chooses Lake Superior, which is 2-3 hours away. He gets up there and is out kayaking around when he gets lost in some fog. When the fog lifts, he is near this weird industrial section of the shore and the water is really foul and he is not sure where he is. He has not told his wife or anyone else that, instead of going to Lake Calhoun, is has traveled hours up to Superior. Only by sheer luck is he able to extricate himself from this area and find his way back to his car.
He is no longer with his wife.

No idea, really, but whatever they use is consistent - the 30k games seem about 2/3 full. I've never been to a game with fewer that 25k.
I think its a combination of it being easy to get to, a nice ball park, relatively cheap concessions (and you can bring in food from outside) and the fact there is little else to do downtown at night. Free tickets are all over town, from one place or another (I mean free for me; obviously the firm/company/whatever pays for them), and armed with free tickets and food from the vendors ourside, and evening at Camden Yards puts you back <$10, plus beer ($4-5 each).
