Can't speak to NYC, but when I was in the mid-Atlantic I was paying something like $18 for Kendall-Jackson, which ain't no great shakes and costs about $9 on the west-saiiiiiide.
The markup out here is galling, to say the least.

Annika Final for Round 1

She finished at 1 over, 71, after putting badly on the last hole.

The top score is -5, so she is six back from the lead.

As I have admitted, I am not a good golfer. I hit my sand wedge 110. I hit my pitching wedge 135. I hit my 9 iron 150. I hit my eight about 160. I hit my seven 170-175. Six = 185. Anything lower than that and I'm too inconsistent to give you a distance. I've played with Chevalier. He'll tell you I hit the ball far, but not very accurate (with any consistency).

I don't know the stats on who hits their irons what distance (pro or amateur). But when I watch golf (and I do quite a bit), I am consistently shocked at what club the players pull for certain distances. Tiger may be a freak, but he hit his 7 iron 210 yards from a fairway bunker over water to a small green with the tournament on the line? What? That's insane.

Maybe it's because coverage focuses on the big hitters (who are always near the top), but I didn't think hitting a nine iron that far was all that impressive. Hell, MR just said he hit his 140 and he's not a good golfer either (or so he says).

TM
I couldn't find any iron stats (for pros or amateurs), but from watching golf (only the majors!), I would conclude that (1) Tiger is a freak, (2) most PGA players don't hit their 9 iron farther than 160 (caveat: unless they're swinging harder than normal, which isn't very often). Even Tiger, while incredibly long, probably does not normally hit his 9 farther than 160. However, there are longer players than Tiger, they just don't have the accuracy/putting skills to exploit. Tiger's insanity is due to the greens he hits in regulation more than his distance.

An Arab-American woman who was in court to fight a parking ticket fainted when the judge asked her if she was a terrorist.

My favorite part: "[Judge William Crosby] confirmed this week that he made the remark but said he was "probably kidding with her." "

I apologize – I never meant to offend. After posting, I immediately thought of the Displaced Dog and the OddMan as exceptions – honestly – and wanted to go back and edit my post to make it clear that my weariness is not with the convention, but with the indiscriminate overadherence to the convention. The site is loading very slowly for me today, so I couldn’t, but it’s just as well because it probably would have resulted in a filter-lighter double post anyway.

Can we admit that the convention simply does not work well with some screen names, and the result is an affected or generic or stilted phrase that ends up detracting from the post? Odd Man and Displaced Dog are exceptions for me partly because of their longstanding use, but more because they are just good little phrases – they’re concise and evocative and each plays well off the screen name. Similarly, if Atticus were to refer to his family as the Grinches (I don’t know if he does, so I’m not kissing up to him here) it would not detract from his post because the image of little green children burninating the cottagees would add life to his post.

So what I really meant to say, in my wordy and blatantly obsequious way, is that, like the parentheticals, if one can’t do it well, one should not bother.

I don't think there's any need to apologize for having an opinion. You don't like something, feel free to mention it. People who don't like your opinion can jump down your throat all they want, but you shouldn't let that bother you. I bet they don't refrain from posting their opinions when the mood strikes them.

For fuck's sake. People are sensitive.

Hey, let's not get crazy here. While in principle a laudable goal, slavish adherence to this rule would make this place look like the wastelands of Findlaw in no time.
