Baseball. Skip if not interested.

The Sox and Yankees sell out the place for 19 of the 81 home games--that helps keep the numbers up. The Wizards are the ones doctoring the numbers. I refuse to pay for any more of their games now that I know they just give away the tickets.
Speaking of:

NEW YORK -- The Yankees wasted little time finding a replacement for Andy Pettitte in their rotation, agreeing Thursday to the outline of a tentative trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers that would bring Kevin Brown to New York in exchange for Jeff Weaver, two baseball officials said on the condition of anonymity.... Brown was 14-9 with a 2.39 ERA last year for Los Angeles

edited to add:

I look more at it as Brown being a replacement for Rocket, with Vasquez being the Pettite replacement.

I realize you tried to set the bar low for yourself, but you have failed even that. That story sucked.

I have an O.K. kayaking story. My friend was just getting into kayaking (it really is a quite popular activity here in Minnesota), and he was going out to a local city lake for his, like, third time ever in his kayak. As he is driving the mile or two to the lake, he decides that this lake is boring. So he decides to drive to another, less boring lake. He chooses Lake Superior, which is 2-3 hours away. He gets up there and is out kayaking around when he gets lost in some fog. When the fog lifts, he is near this weird industrial section of the shore and the water is really foul and he is not sure where he is. He has not told his wife or anyone else that, instead of going to Lake Calhoun, is has traveled hours up to Superior. Only by sheer luck is he able to extricate himself from this area and find his way back to his car.

He is no longer with his wife.
Oh. And all this time I thought that "kayaking" was just a euphemism for sex.

anyone have any good depo stories?

Listen, pally, that's about it when it comes to my arsenal of kayaking stories. I don't see you trotting out some top notch, A-1 kayaking story.

I also saw About Schmidt this weekend and I reacted the same way you did. It is definitely the best work Nicholson's done in years. I'm not sure if he's gotten enthusiastic about acting again or if it's just the first role in a long time where he's had to play someone other than Jack Nicholson.

I also thought Dermott Mulroney's balding mullet was one of the better pieces of costuming to come along since Julie Newmar wriggled into the Catwoman costume.

Well, I did a search and didn't see that this had been posted before. And if it has, oh well.

Here's a fun holiday snowglobe thingy that if you shake it up, the citizens get shook up as well.
It's kind of twisted fun, but still fun. Must have sound on.
(spree: christmas music and crowd noise)

It was below the bar on the basement floor. The worst. Worse than the time PLF created a sock to appear to be Penske socking to flame PLF or a third party socker spoofing Penske socking flaming PLF but in reality was PLF flaming himself, which was pretty bad.

To be honest, and I know y'all like honesty rather than lies, in a bizarro world way what PLF writes resonates in my head like the sound that a cat makes, but when I plug my ears and actually force myself to read it for content, the meows in my head translate to "That PLF chap is really bottom of the barrell. I dislike the cut of his jib and see a cramped cubicle in his future."

Hehehe. I think you hit the nail on the head with that one. The tone, the rambling stream of consciousness, the vapidity, the self-absorption - yep, sebby to a T.

I liked that too. I happened to take in "Big Fish" last night. It is probably Burton's most mellow work. McGregor was terrific (did a good southern accent) and Danny DeVito was hilarious. Steve Buscemi as the poet laureate of a small Alabama town was also pretty funny.

A timmy moment with respect to the linked story --

"Wallace is aware of his status among the fans, some who have said they will not renew their season tickets unless Wallace is traded."

That is all.

OMG. What a moron you are if you liked that movie. Did it teach you the meaning of life? Do you now have your priorities in order so you don't end up like poor old schmidt? Geez, small things really do impress small minds.

Not (confirming what a good decision it is to have the morons like ncs on ignore, but lamenting the fact that someone who is not a moron quoted 'em) Me.

So far, it looks like the reviewers either love it or hate it. I'm a big Tim Burton fan, I love both Ewan MacGregor and Albert Finney, so I'm looking forward to the movie.

I am hoping that we can all put Planet of the Apes behind us and move on.

It's funny, most of the reviews I have seen have been pretty middling. Whatever, I liked it.

I'm telling, a little kayaking would really do you a world of good. You just seem all wound up. So tense, and also a bit of a downer. If you stop watching so much TV, and get out for a bit of exercise, I think it will help relax and you see things in a more positive light.

The mayor of a BC town is embarassed by circulation of a nude photo of her wearing official mayoral garb --- and nothing else --- at the town hall.

HOUSTON, British Columbia - The picture shows Mayor Sharon Smith with a big smile and wearing only her chain of office at the town hall, but she's not smiling now that the image has gotten into public circulation.
Smith, 48, said that picture and others were was stolen from her home computer more than a month ago in this northwestern British Columbia town of 4,300.
"I'm disappointed that the stories seem to focus on what the pictures are instead of that it was a theft from my home," Smith said. "Our family is the ones who are the victims here."
The picture was taken at a private time with her husband and was meant to remain private, the mayor said Monday.
"My husband asked for a specific picture because he was very proud of the fact that I was mayor and that was what it was intended for.
"No disgrace to the office was intended," she said. "We made sure that we were not infringing on anyone else. It was a private moment and that's all it was."
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Dave Fenson said investigators believe someone with access to the computer stole the pictures.
Nipper Kettle, a former town council member, said he recognized the location of the pictures as the mayor's office and urged Smith to apologize and resign because of a "catastrophic error in judgment."
