				      | Don't know him. Limited to seven hours of TV per week (had to fill out a form based on the TV listings and submit to parents for approval and scheduling conflicts with my sisters!!!!!!) and The Waltons never made the cut.
 I think I need counseling.

 | Funny, I think I need counseling because I was permitted to watch far too much television. I am almost at the point that I cannot have a conversation without a television reference. It sucks when people you work with just don't get the references. For example, if I were working on something that called for a matter of judgment, and I had an opinion on it but not a lot of experience in the matter to back up that opinion, I might say, when talking to a more experienced person or one who might have a different opinion on the judgment call, "I'm just a caveman."

Do you really think that deserves a blank stare, or are my colleagues just uninformed fogies? I mean who doesn't know that the next line is "your laws frighten and confuse me" ???

 | :wtf: Were your parents liberals? Liberals always fuck their kids up. Like the parents of the American Taliban. What a bunch of marin county fuck ups. Now their kid will be in jail until he is 40 something.

 | I think you get too much flak on these boards. Nobody ever recognizes you for your subtle segues. The way you gently steer conversation to topics that interest you without anyone's realizing it until after it's happened is a trait I admire. I would like to go on record as saying that I shall never ignore you.

		| ABBAMuffin I will admit that I don't know who sings "Hot for Teacher" and that I have no idea who those three guys are.
 | You don't recognize Van Halen?

This is nearly as bad as the 70% of grade schoolers who point to Montana and call it "Iraq"

 | We didn't have to schedule it, but we were pretty much limited to Wild America, Nova, 321 Contact, and various educational programs. Oh, and Monty Python. On a really good week we'd get to see Wonderful World of Disney, but only if we were angels. In Jr. High I watched a lot of Dr. Who.

Once they caught me watching the Jeffersons - that was a big no-no.

I didn't listen to the radio until mid-HS either, but I had ABBA tapes (I am not making this up) which were permitted.

 | Well, truth be known, I prefer the politics board. I only come over here when that board is dead. You all could keep me off this board if you'd post over there. There are too many conservatives over there. I feel like we are all just ganging up on Tyrone all the time. I feel sorry for him.

As for directing the posts towards a topic of my interest, well, I don't watch reality TV so I would have nothing to say to you all if I didn't try to direct the topic toward politics or that other topic that I won't mention because so many here are upset by it.

 | We were only supposed to watch PBS and the football channel, and I didn't know that there were any other channels on the TV until I was five or six. Someone forgot to turn off the TV after a football game and my first segue from educational programming (football was considered educational) was the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice . My mother had to sit down and explain to me that all the people that James Bond had killed were actors and that he didn't really hurt any of them and that no one person could do that. It was traumatic. After that I think that she let me watch more non-educational fictional TV. My dad to this day still proclaims pretty much everything on TV (except for sports, that's still educational) "crap." |
