Because the party of Lincoln is supposed to be the force fighting slavery and fighting for equal human rights for all.

First, we watched that hit over and over again because it resulted in a broken neck. It looked savage, and horrible. But, watch ten hockey games, and you'll see two or three hits just as bad. Thing is, most such contact doesn't result in serious injury. Hurts like hell, but that's about it. This one, and most others that end in serious hurt, result from happenstance of a big hit at just the right spot and angle. I don't think anyone plans for that, or tries for it.

Second, I've hit receivers that hard and harder, helmet first, without any injuries. Not trying to hurt, but trying to cream, and sometimes in anger. Maybe different than what happened to this guy, but the difference is in degrees, I think.
Dude, Chuck Cecil could not have done this. I saw the Bertuzzi hit. It ain't the standard helmet between the shoulder blades of the receiver going across the middle shit. He slammed the fucking guy's head onto the ice from the blind side.

I guess this begs the question, if Tyson actually killed one of the fighters he said he was going to kill before a match, would he be liable?

You know I would flash mine. Just for the benefit of anyone with HDTV.

Ugh. This is a pet peeve, and you've been doing it a lot lately, so I'll pick on you. The phrase "begs the question" should at this point be outright banished, because it would be overused even if the vast majority of people who use it did not do so incorrectly.

Just say "raises the question" or "makes me wonder." Please.

Thanks.

(Maybe others can explain this better, but to "beg the question" is to present as a (true) premise something that itself needs to be proved, that is, to use your very conclusion as a premise that supports your conclusion.)

That sounds like possibly an ostensible reason but I think my theory makes more sense.

I think it would depend on whether he also ate his opponents children, as promised. I'm pretty sure that would lead to both criminal and civil liability. Even in boxing, you've got to draw the line at kid eating.

I guess this begs the question of why have you become such a power-hungry bitch mod lately?

Have a good one!

Cheers!

Perhaps "log cabin" is some sort of chocolate submarine reference.

Wasn't it Lennox Lewis who said, matter of factly, in reply "I don't have any children"?

The Log Cabin Republicans were founded in California to put inside-the-party pressure on former governor Reagan to come out in opposition to a ballot initiative that would have barred gays from teaching in public schools. At the time, Reagan was gearing up for 1980. I think the name was used to seize moral high ground, as Bilmore alludes. It worked; Reagan came out against the measure. Even in the late '70s, you wouldn't have found a lot of people willing publicly to call Lincoln a closeted rail-splitter, if you catch my drift.
