Diversity Scorecard
How diverse in your firm? Here's how you can tell. (BIGLAW-oriented, I'm afraid.)

Diversity Scorecard
Is this as stupid as it looks? Is "diversity" measured solely by the percentage of minorities at each firm?
Putting aside whether minority=diversity, percentages alone don't really say anything. Are the minorities mostly associates? Minority partners? What about tolerance, which the ratio of minority partners to associates might show.

Diversity Scorecard
I'm curious about the rankings of the international firms. What counts as a minority in a Hong Kong office? Mexico City?

Amazon
So this Amazon link popped up with little or no fanfare. If I click on the link does Lawtalkers get some kind of fee? I use Amazon all the time, and if clicking through this link triggers a kick-back, I'll gladly use it from now on.

too funny
If you read just one judicial decision today, make it this one. A choice excerpt:
"Plaintiff seems to rely on the fact that he has pled Rule 9(h) and stated an admiralty claim versus the vessel and his employer to demonstrate that maritime law applies to Phillips. This bootstrapping argument does not work; Plaintiff must properly invoke admiralty law versus each Defendant discretely. Despite the continued shortcomings of Plaintiff's supplemental submission, the Court commends Plaintiff for his vastly improved choice of crayon — Brick Red is much easier on the eyes than Goldenrod, and stands out much better amidst the mustard splotched about Plaintiff's briefing. But at the end of the day, even if you put a calico dress on it and call it Florence, a pig is still a pig."

Change in Ethics?
Bilmore posted on the FB about this, but I thought given the broad interest in the topic I would place it here as well.
The ABA has endorsed changes to the ethical rules.
Check out an article here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...nguage=printer
"The American Bar Association on Monday narrowly passed a controversial proposal that will allow lawyers to pierce sacred attorney-client secrecy rules to help stop financial crimes. "

change in ethics
This is a big deal even outside of the legal conmmunity. the NYT and WaPo have both done stories on the subject in the past several weeks.

Client: So, will our discussion be covered by A/C privilege?
Atty: Well, that depends. If I believe you may be committing a financial crime or fraud, then under our ethical rules, I MAY breach A/C privilege, although it is not required that I do so.
Client: Uh, never mind.

If you were considering going into securities compliance, you might want to rethink that.
