I've been waiting patiently and refreshing my screen for the past hour or two, waiting for your link. I am beginning to feel like you are standing me up. I'll only wait for five more hours if you don't respond.

I probably would be, had I seen any man wearing one without looking like a doofus at any point during the last 20 years.
But I am fond of the cravat:

Flinty, just so you know, they make a device so you can take the internet with you when you leave the office. I don't have one myself, but it seems like it'd be perfect for this situation.

Is that meant to have a jacket/coat of some kind over it? Or does one wear just a shirt and a cravat in public?
ETA that looks like it could come in handy in an emergency.

Yeah, jacket & vest over it. Also, they're frequently worn with fold down collars instead of wing, which I think looks much better.
It could be useful in certain emergencies - like I forgot my skirt and am looking for some spare fabric to whip one together.
eta: I tried to get the Mr. a smoking jacket, but I've learned what I can convince him to wear and what I can't, and that I can't.

If I tie a full windsor, it ends up looking like a bow tie. I would need a six-foot tie to make it look right. Sebby's Charles Tyrwhitt ties are unbelievably thick. Does that make them crappy?

You're taking a very strong position without offering much proof to back you up, other than that that you said so. Almost all top mens designers make french cuff dress shirts. All of the "guides" to current men's fashion routinely display models wearing french cuff dress shirts. And a lot of high-end [custom] shirt makers now make their shirts french cuff standard or at least start with french cuffs as the default choice. [Ascot Chang comes to mind - The Custom Shop (the one on Wall Street), while not as high end, will assume that you want french cuffs] And since we're so devoted to dress tradition around here - traditionally, most, if not all dress shirts required cufflinks. Go watch some old movies from the 30's and 40's, or ask your old grandad (not the booze) if you don't believe me.
Second, I think there are two other factors involved (a) where you live and (b) your field of practice. French cuffs/cufflinks are much more accepted style of dress here in NYC than elsewhere. Additionally, you see many more Coporate/Securites/RE types with cufflinks than you do Litigators/IP/TE types.
That being said, GAUDY cufflinks should be outlawed. Cheval, you forgot the clock faces, the tennis rackets, etc. I saw a partner today who had cufflinks resembling a prone tiger. Ugh.
BTW - Not sure who wrote this earlier, but the statement on Barney's prices was, in my opinion, highly innaccurate. You will be hard put to find ANY good off-the-rack (not made-to-measure) suit at Barney's for less than $1,000. A good deal of the suits at the Warehouse Sale are still more than that. And even then, the service at that store, well, sucks. If you're going to spend that kind of money, go to Saks or Bergdorf's.

I although I dare risk "outing" myself by declaring this, I constantly wear dark dress shirts with dark ties of primarily the same color.
It looks great if the tie has some pattern (in either texture or color) to make it stand out from the shirt.

Yeah, probably. Tie makers face them with all sorts of shit now, to keep them from wrinkling and make them keep shape through all sorts of abuse. And people are so used to crappy thick ties they think any knot other than a four-in-hand looks huge.
that said, a lot of people don't actually tie the windsor correctly -
Correct
Incorrect, though what this site call the "English" knot is actually the Windsor done correctly.

I was shocked and dismyed to learn on saturday that Crossroads Liquors on 14th Street raised the price for a bottle of 18 year old Macallan from $54.99 to a whopping $72.99. THE HORROR!
So of course, like the pathetic person that I am, I paid the man on went on my merry way.
Oh- Does anyone have any familiarity with a "Old Raj" Gin? It's very expensive for gin. Guys in store told me its the best em tasted - just chill and pour in Martini glass, no vermouth needed (so of course I bought this too, just haven't opened it yet).
