I used to see him occasionally playing pool at Amsterdam Billiards on the West side. His nickname was "side pockets." I never played him myself, but I can tell you he wasn't bad. Good shotmaker who favored thin side-pocket cuts (hence the nickname). Aggressive player. Had some trouble with cue ball speed and getting shape on subsequent shots, but that was probably just rust. Played nine-ball but should have stuck with straight pool/rotation games absent regular practice. In those games, you tend to have more options after any given shot.

No one seems to play straight pool these days - least of all me. Sigh.

For str8

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are now downloadable from NPR's live concert series.

ETA: the concert series homepage with downloadable concerts. White Stripes, Arctic Monkey, James Brown, Son Volt, Death Cab, etc.

Neko Case and Martha Wainwright (Rufus's sister, Loudon's daughter) will be performing on Friday.

Nicole Kidman has a beautiful face but the rest of her looks like an IV pole (these days, at least). I remember thinking that she looked hot in Moulin Rouge. I can't remember how she looked in Eyes Wide Shut. I guess it didn't make much of an impression.

She looked annoying in EWS.

BUT, whoever the chicks were who were walking around at the orgy scene... damn... That chick who saves Tom Cruise's ass is unreal.

Its just unfair that I've never played with a set that spectacular. I've had some nice sets in my hands, and the old lady's are pretty swell... But fuck me, the ones that chick was packin are the finest I've seen yet.

That Keeley chick from Page3.com is close, but not quite there...

I've seen that issue. Its a good tool for maintaining celibacy.

That's an act, my friend. He's really just a big dork.

You're just jealous that he has a smokin' hot wife, goes to work at resorts in the best places in the world, makes $80 million a year and does as he pleases whenever and wherever he pleases.

But I'm with you to a certain extent. I've had enough of the "That's pretty neat," "That would be pretty cool" crap.

I think I saw Kyra Sedgwick one night last week. I never see anyone, despite the fact I live in LA, so this was big. If someone could confirm that she's been in NYC for the entire last 2 months, it would be sort of reassuring.

I don't know if jealousy is the right word. Would I choose his life over mine? No. Well, yes, but only if I can keep my own attitude. If I have to adopt his, then no. I'd definitely rather be me than him, but I wouldn't mind having what he has. I prefer myself to him. Does that make sense? If I were able to make the conscious decision, before birth, of being him or me, I'd choose me. Every day of the week.
