I think that's ridiculous.
But I buy this:
Being gay forces you into a class of people outside the mainstream and pushes you away from things that are popular among hetero boys and men. Being pushed away from those things towards other areas that are more welcoming and accepting often leads to exposure to art, entertainment and other fields that mainstream people tend to think of as "cultured," simply because it isn't mainstream.

Do you have to meet someone in person for your ESPP to work?

I'm sure this is true. I would bet that there is a fairly large part of the african american community that feels that way.

me too. and when it is used, it is typically on this very board. the last time I actually heard someone say it? no idea. but I don't hang out with bunches of radical feminists either. unless you count gwnc.

Wow. I disagree with this entire post. You were drinking scotch that night?

My uncle, who is a pretty successful real estate agent in Chicago, and who is straight as the day is long, told me when he walks into a house that he can tell in an instant if it was lived in by a gay man or a gay male couple. If there is no hetereosexual male to influence, then the house is just better decorated, much more in style and he almost never has to hire a person to set up the house to show it.
I never buy clothes or decorate anything without getting a girls opinion. I like to think my lack of style is genetic.

Ha. You'd think, but actually I did that because you are/were a "member of a band" and that makes you the hottest of commodities on the Spanky Scale.

You should talk to bnb about this one, although I think she only uses it to drive home the fact that you're poor.

Ty posted this on PB. My daughter came back from New Zealand with a logo of the Hakaman- it's like the sort of sumo looking stance the black jersies were taking at first. she was in Dunedin. she had no idea what the logo was for, but now I know it's the football team.
It's pretty cool pre game posturing.

Haka are traditional Maori dances, and have analogues elsewhere in Polynesia (e.g., Tonga, where the other team is from). Wikipedia says:
- A haka is a Māori posture dance accompanied by chanted vocals. Haka actions may include facial gesticulations such as showing the whites of the eyes and poking out tongues and a wide variety of body actions including slapping the hands against the body and stamping feet. As well as chanted words, a variety of cries and grunts are used. Haka may be understood as a kind of symphony in which the different parts of the body represent many instruments. The hands, arms, legs, feet, voice, eyes, tongue and the body as a whole combine to express courage, annoyance, joy, or whatever feelings are relevant to the purpose.
Haka are sometimes popularly thought of solely as war dances, but individual haka have different purposes, not all related to war. War haka were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition. Today, haka constitute an integral part of formal or official welcome ceremonies for distinguished visitors or foreign dignitaries, serving to impart a sense of the importance of the occasion.
The word haka also has a broader use as a generic term for Māori dance or song accompanied by dance. A group of people performing a haka are known as a kapa haka (kapa meaning row or rank).
