Okay, okay--I'll amend my statement to should-have-been-a-one-hit-wonder Bonnie Tyler. Hate the way she sounds.
And another thing I forgot to mention about Latoya--I think her loads of experience as a wedding singer hurt her some. She's a very smooth performer, but learned it in a context where she was supposed to be good, but not too good--can't pull focus from the bride and groom, after all. I also think she's been a little shouty lately. But no way should she have gone home before Jasmine or Diana. It's been said many times here before, by me and others, but the final four, based on talent and ability, should have been Fantasia, Latoya, George and Jennifer.

You forget GWINKY's husband's birthday? That's odd.
And I really want a haiku from you that starts "Oh Khabibulin"...

I get it. His name is Clay, but you changed it to "Gay". "Gay" rhymes with "Clay".

Maybe. But why wouldn't they take advantage of all those people who can't wait to sign away their rights? Hell, applications for other reality shows make you sign away your rights to publish an autobiography for a term of five years after the airing of a show. Do you really think AI's parent company isn't making any money off of Clay? I'd be shocked.

(2) Apparently I sat next to ncs for part of Coachella without either of us knowing, as I saw Andy Dick in the VIP area around the same time (maybe a little later).
Other things:
(1) How does the board feel about the band Franz Ferdinand? For those who thought The Strokes weren't Scottish enough, I recommend. Plus, they have some man-crush song, NTTAWWT.
(2) Danger Mouse had a killer set at Coachella. Those SF/SV posters who have the Grey Album should PM me. (Actually one of of you needs to PM me, but still...)
(3) Str8, how do you feel about the KCRW v. Indie 103 issue? Indie 103 is a station that plays indie rock, with a focus on playign stuff that never got on the radio, like the Buzzcocks, Bad Religion, plus new stuff, like the aforementioned Franz Ferdinand.
|
Franz Ferdinand could not be hotter and yet still keep 100% of their cred. They should enjoy this before their fans start fighting over "I liked them back when . . . but now they've sold out" bullshit. I've got the CD and the Darts of Pleasure single -- terrific stuff.
For awhile, I was listening to KCRW from 9-12 and Indie 103 in the car on weekends and evenings. Now I've started getting into the whole NPR scene. (Though don't get me started on "left, right and center"). At work, I'm on an all-Tortoise format though. No radio. Not even TV on the Radio.

Clay was signed by AI (actually by 19 Entertainment, the company responsible for AI and the company that signs the winners and any other contestants they want).
Kimberly Locke and Josh Gracin have record deals with different companies.

To say nothing of Total Eclipse of the Heart, memorably reworked by the "Dan Band" in the opening sequence of Old School ("Turn around . . . every now and then I get a little bit terrified / I see that fuckin' look in your eyes")

Ok, I watched last night for the first time this season. I thought Trish came off pretty well at the bitch fest known as The Women Speak Out or whatever. That Susie brat is idiotic and I think that came through pretty clearly (though maybe middle america missed it). I thought it was interesting that they didn't have Jesse (San Antonio lawyer chick who was made to look creepy with the arm touching or whatever) speak at all after she circulated the e-mail saying how fake everything was.
Problem was, Trish's big points were totally wiped out in the next hour when she did the pathetic and lame follow the guy thing (I'm sure at the producers' behest). Way to let the producers cast you as the psycho stalker chick. Good move.
Oh, and, Mandy is Katy-riffic!
|
She came off well to people who weren't shocked, SHOCKED, that she had slept with 35 men--one married--and a couple of women. At least one of the amazing ladies recognized that here experience might just be shocking to "middle america" The rest of them were just catty bitches, and there was no way trish was going to look good in front of them. The whole thing seemed a bit too Jerry Springer.
[eta spoiler space--stop here tivo people]
As for the stalker, of course ABC put her up to it. You know that moments after she said "I'm not done here" or whatever it was in the limo, some assistant producter said "hey, what if you come back . . . " I highly doubt she just figured out where the dream date was (and DC, in winter, for a "dream date"--Mandy Jaye got ripped off there), and booked a room at the Willard where (wow!) Jesse and Mandy Jaye were having dinner.
I have to say thought it would have been far more interesting if he'd ditched mandy jaye, had his brains fucked out by trish, and then had her stride in to collect a rose at what would actually have been the most exciting rose ceremony ever. Instead he's stuck with two blond ingenues who are thinking marriage, through reality tv, at age 23. fun.
