I was talking about me (which is why I used "I" rather than "you") when I referred to the dislike, not suggesting that Coltrane's feelings about it had changed with a personal circumstance.

Well, I work with a black guy and he tells me jokes just like that one!" or some crap like that. People can be real assholes.
|
how about "bad neighborhood" to describe where black people live?
This last summer I have 3 teen boys at a b-ball tournament in Toledo. 2 black 1 white.
we're at a hotel checking in and I ask the lady if there is a good running route, or if the road out front goes for 3 miles so i can go down and back. She says "yes it does, but the neighborhood gets maybe not so safe." the guys are hanging a few feet back but hear her, and I hear one of the black kids snicker and say "the hood." but he's a bright kid and the fact is he hears a white person telling another white person to be careful because black people live that way.
That people are biased is something I don't think you can change. But the saddest thing to me is seeing the shit being forced down to the next generation.

Some fights aren't worth picking. Would you have changed his mind about homosexuality, or just his behavior while around you?
Besides, I've met your brother, and I suspect you beat yourself up about this more than he would. That's because he's one complex, bad-ass, fafo.*
*fatherfucker - my new fave term for the male who likeys the male.

So am I sterotyping because I have a strong image of you as an aristocratic Mexican:

I'm reasonably certain that all of Toledo is a bad neighborhood (and not because there's black folks there). Maybe she was just a self-loathing Toledian?

I've met some european Mexicans who definitely act aristrocratic towards native american Mexicans.

this was within months of Tom-Kat moving there, so I bet she was actually expecting an influx of tourists.

Yeah. There can be quite a tension between mestizos and rubios in Mexico. And Mexico is a very classist and racist place. I've been told that my grandfather married my grandmother in part because of her blue eyes and fair skin.
This guy wasn't Mexican.
In New Mexico, you'll hear a distinction between "Spanish" and "Mexican" and "Indian." There's an interesting tension between those groups (and of course, the Anglos).

By my tally, in only one day you have logged about 97 of the top 100 direct gay stereotypes or references to indirect gay stereotypes (such as above). Very impressive.

I have frequented that Tim Horton's a bunch of times. Right off 84, I think.
Rode right past it Monday and went to Taco Hell instead.
