It's kind of pricey -- around $36 for a tube -- but one tube will last all summer if you just use it on your face and neck. I got mine at Blue Mercury, I'm not sure if you have those in your neck of the woods, but I'm sure some place down there must carry it.
This of course is the stuff I mentioned that burns my skin. I can actually smell a chemical reaction going on. I think my skin must be more sensitive than barely's so take that for what its worth. To note, my skin is so sensitive that I cant have my eyebrows waxed as the top layer of skin ends up coming off and I have huge burn marks around that area.

That lilt is lovely. My alltime favorite voice beliongs to Christiane Amapour. Deep, husky, foreign, sexy. I could listen to her talk all day.

I have a similar problem. I can't wax, I can't use any kind of cream in place of shaving. It makes a mess of my skin, and sometimes it leaves me with a burn.

So if you have any kind of sensitive skin you are better off making sure whatever it is you use is made for your face, which tends to be more sensitive than your arms or your legs. Or you could end up with a chemical burn which is what happened to me one time when I randomly used some sun screen a friend gave me.

Okay, I am so sorry for both of you. My skin is sensitive, but I've never gotten a chemical burn from shaving cream. I also cannot wax, though, which sucks when you are going to the beach or a week or two.

I've used the great Peter Thomas Roth sunscreen for face, unscented, nonsticky, great protection. He seems to make his stuff for sensitive skin.

Really, it's hard to find something decent for body that you can wear with real clothing. Maybe I'll just begin wearing gloves, a la Julianne Moore in Far From Heaven. (An exquisite movie, really a movie movie. I absolutely loved it.)

I should just plead guilty now.

Did anyone else see this and shudder? From today's NYT: In announcing the indictment of Ms. Stewart and the broker who has stood resolutely beside her, prosecutors presented a surprising new allegation that Mr. Bacanovic may have altered a Merrill Lynch work sheet about Ms. Stewart's portfolio. He used a different pen when he scribbled "$60" next to the ImClone entry, they said, suggesting that it was done at a later date. Prosecutors say that Mr. Bacanovic was trying to show that he had an agreement with Ms. Stewart to sell ImClone stock when it fell to $60.

I do this all the time -- I scribble notes on pages, often using a different pen to update stuff based upon later conversations. Despite my general attempts to only use a certain type of pen, other pens mysteriously show up in my desk and displace my preferred kind. In fact, as I type this, in my desk drawer, I have (1) a pen from a hotel in NYC that I have never stayed at, (2) a Value Rent a Car pen, (3) a personalized pen from Biff and Muffy's wedding -- and I don't know Biff or Muffy, (4) a pen from a client bank that disappeared about six mergers ago -- ok, that one is a souvenir, so it doesn't count, (5) a red Bic stick, and (6) three of my preferred style.

I usually try to date my notes, but I don't always, so I can well imagine myself in Baconovic's situation (assuming it was an innocent update of his notes). Plus, we both move in the same social circles, so I feel his pain.

(edited to correctly spell "souvenir" -- I hope)

Rolfing redux

I remember this came up a bit back so I am cutting and pasting my "morning tip" from Dr. Weil.

Tip: The Advantages of Rolfing
Rolfing is not simply massage. It's a form of bodywork intended to restructure the connective tissue (or fascia). Basic Rolfing consists of 10 intensive sessions in which the practitioner applies firm -- even painful -- pressure with the fingers and elbows to specific parts of the body. For people who are open to rolfing, it can be a great way to get more in touch with your body -- and change long-standing problems of bad posture and chronic pain (like back pain). Rolfing can also release repressed emotions as well as diminish habitual muscle tension. If you want to make some kind of change in your life and work on your body, you might consider rolfing. For a referral in your area, contact the Rolfing Institute of Structural Integration.

I met Baconovic a couple of summers ago in the Hamptons and quite frankly found him quite charming and had a great deal of respect for him, but now I see him as quite the jerk. Not to be judgmental but quite honestly, I find it unjudeo-christian, immoral and unethical to dump a stock or assist a dumpee based on the fact that you know that a highly classified ruling of a governmental agency will smite down the stock's value ahead of johnny Q. public.

Thank god that the rule of law does not turn a blinde eye or coddle these fancy pants TV hostess types and their coat tail riding brokers!

There was something else you said recently that left me going WTF? but I cant remembe it. Sort of makes me question whether you are the true authority on everyting I have always thought you were for years. Maybe you are Cliff Clavin?
Maybe I am, but if so I wear better shoes.

The perfume in the visibly firm stuff doesn't bother me, I don't really notice it, just the metalic underbite, which smells to me like blood (which isn't really a bad thing, just peculiar). But I'm not at all surprised that something that smells barely discernable to me would drive someone else nuts, or that something that smelled strongly to me would smell totally different to someone else. Most people can't actually smell cyanide, for example, despite the almond thing being a staple of mystery novels. Actually, I smeared some of the VF stuff on the Mr. before he ran off to a game one day and he commented that it was disgusting. I said "oh, yeah it smells like blood," and he said "uh, no, it smells like a floozy wearing cheap perfume who forgot to wash off the baby lotion before going out." People are sensitive to different kinds of smells.

And accents.

Scars

While we're on the topic of skin care, has anybody ever tried any scar therapy products you can get in the drugstore? It turns out that I am literally thin-skinned, as I'll end up with a scar after the slightest scrape or scratch, despite diligent hygiene.

I know this is a q. better posed to a good dermatologist, but the last one I saw sucked, and I'm having some trouble setting up an appointment with a good one.

I want to know how EO reversed her sn damage, while we are at it. My skin on my body, not face (as I used sunblock there more effectively), has never been the same since I went to South America for an extended period. Freckly, tans in two seconds, bound to turn into leather at some point I am sure for a sin committed years ago.

Would be kayakers -- check the weather first

23 year old woman who just took up kayaking a couple of weeks ago (no doubt in an attempt to kick her reality TV habit) was rescued after clinging to a navigational tower in Tampa Bay for more than 24 hours:

Good v-neck undershirts

Hey! Any ideas? I'm looking for the following:

reasonably long in the front and back without being too baggy and full in the top (i.e. I don't want it to come untucked, but I don't want to have to buy too big a size)

comfortable, thick cotton (more like a casual Gap t-shirt)

not too susceptible to wrinkles and shrinking

easily removable tag (don't like the ones that have the information screened onto the shirt, either)

price not too much of a concern for good ones, but I don't want to pay $25 for an undershirt, I think.

Thanks!

(I thought that looked like a huddle, as you would do to discuss an important issue like good men's undershirts, but I guess it is some sort of group hug.)

I recall reading some article recently about a "plumber's" t-shirt that had extra long tails, designed (obviously) to avoid plumber-crack/butt. I couldn't locate them with a quick google, but you might want to make a more thorough search. I have no idea if these shirts would otherwise qualify.

Personally, I've been happy with jockey t-shirts. but I don't have a curiously long torso, so untucking hasn't been a problem.
