No, my objection to them is that THEY ARE FUCKING IN MY WAY.

Although I suppose I should give them credit for being employed. If I were in SF, I'd be stumbling over them and their outstretched burger king cups because the goverment pays them less for doing nothing.

I'm with ThrashersFan on this one. I am delighted that you have a child you love and enjoy. I will ask you how it is doing with sincere interest in your answer and admire its photo even it is a scrunch-faced ugly little thing like tiny babies really tend to be. But your bringing it into the office requires me to drop whatever I'm doing and feign pleasure in being forced to hold it and coo at it when I'm really just petrified it'll drool on me, or else I'll be labeled an anti-family child-hating mutant. I'm just not into babies, that's all.

I thought Burgie was just wooing Paigow, in an "I feel your pain, and I can soothe it too" kind of way.

Don't take it personally - it's not like I said you were as crabby as TM or anything.

Yeah, I got the part about the blocking the sidewalk and your issues with fat. You just seemed to have other issues, too, since remoras are not fat fish (e.g.).

In SF, we have more than our share of the homeless, drawn here by the mild climate and government policies that, like Christopher Reeve, are paralyzed and unproductive and yet have a happy face on them that makes everyone think all is well, but for the most part these folks hang out over by the Civic Center, and do not block the sidewalks for the industrious folks who work in the private sector.

On a serious note, the decision to de-institutionalize mentally ill people and instead let them roam the streets without care is incredibly sad and misguided, and I can't think of a single politician, on the left or the right, who seems to have the desire to address the problem or any idea of what might be done. Here in SF, during the American Psychiatric Association convention a few weeks ago, a mentally disturbed individual attacked a professor of psychiatry from Johns Hopkins on the street from behind, for no apparent reason, sending her to the hospital, so the issue got some attention for a few news cycles, but it took the massive irony of the situation to get even that much play.

What? Are you overly sensitive? I didn't read any of those posts about dragging your screaming kid to the office and disrupting everyone else as crabby at all. It was merely a statement of fact.
Stated in a calm and rational manner by someone who is trying to get some work done.

Well, it's probably better covered on the politics board, but having the opportunity to deal on a too-frequent basis with shiftless government employees does not lead me to be charitable and excuse their inability to walk down the street in a generally straight line. (How does it take 5 minutes to file-stamp a pleading?)

Also, why do all you folks have such a hard time navigating on the sidewalk in a crowd? How freakin' hard is it to avoid people? You go left, go right, slow down, speed up, and give polite verbal cues to the other pedestrians. It ain't fuckin' rocket science.
What big metropolis do you live in ? Dayton? Come down to the distric during rush hour. Here we have sidewalks cluttered with "newspaper" boxes that take up the outer side of the sidewalk that is not taken up b the trees in iron fences every five feet. Thats a third of the sidewalk gone. Then you have a whole lotta fat fucks taking up more than their fair share of space, and just the gernally slowmoving lopers who dont have the coutesy to stay in the "slow lane" (read: right side of sidewalk) so that us movers and shakers can get by. You have a large population of people walk ing around getting to their offices on serioulsy limited sidwalks all at the same time! During the summer you have sidewalk seating which takes up tons more sidewalk space and in the winter you have gigantic snow piles from the fucking street plowers. There is just no room and too many people.

So when people dont stay right if they are obese or loping or dragging a shorty around, they are just being selfish or oblivious. And if they bust out an umbrella in anthing less than a downpour, they are a fucking pussy who shuld have their eyes gagued out or nearly gauged out, like they do to me. And how about those assholes who carry their umbrellas so that they are horizontal. I got a nice bruise from getting nailed by one of those.

Praise the metro with its new campaign of big yellow signs that say "stand right, walk left" and "let people out of the metro before entering". If the city could just make signs saying "move your slow gigantic lardass to the right if you insist on overeating McFried Chicken Parts by the dozen as a snack so others can get by", I would be really happy.

I nearly plowed down a shorty who had wandered about ten feet from his obese mother on my way into my office building. I am pretty sure they didnt work in the building so get the fuck away.

You're not required to hold anyone's kid, or even stop working.

Here's what I say:

"Hey, look at this big guy/sweetie. How's he/she sleeping so far?"

Wait for answer.

"Well at least you're getting a little time to rest. Good luck."

Done. 20 seconds expired.

Do you think you have to hold the kid because you're female? No one ever cares when I decline to hold a baby.

Yes. That, and the baby inevitably mistakes my substantial rack for a snack bar.

I have to agree with Soup on this one. Whenever someone brings their baby into the office, I always have to ask them if I can hold him/her, and they usually ask "are you sure", like they're imposing. If someone forces you to hold their baby, that's not good, but I have found people are generally very laid-back, especially if they know you do not have children and unless you make a fuss over the kid. Perhaps I am just lucky. Do people generally foist their children on their co-workers? That would not go over well at all around here.
