And I like painting white walls with dark paint.

I have crown moldings which makes the whole establishing a line between the wall and the ceiling easier. I am not not not ripping out the countertops at this point, unless someone wants to send me several thousand dollars. Honestly, the cabinets are a higher priority than the countertops, as are new covers for the light switches and outlets. I am thinking terracotta (not incredibly dark) in the kitchen and red in the dining room, which like dtb's includes a chair rail. Obviously, I will have to find some kind of red and terra cotta that don't look awful when sort of juxtaposed a bit. I can't, alas, afford professional painters. I have painted before, and I'm anal as hell (tax lawyer!) so I think the taping will actually appeal to me. The living room is probably going to be in the yellow family, and my bedroom in the green family. Ceilings will remain white. I will probably wait a while to do the bathroom as well.
Does anyone know how hard it is to replace an old thermostat with a new digital programmable one? I know my dad has done it, so it can't be that hard, but I have never ever done anything electrical in my life.

Very easy. Just follow the instructions in the box.
Almost as easy as replacing switches and outlets (not just the covers), which I've done throughout my house and which makes it look new new new.

I am good with doing the plates, but are switches and outlets easy too? I suppose I will have to figure out where the circuit breakers are.
I agree that changing the old ones will make it look new new new. And will allow me to put dimmers on the overhead lights in the living room and dining room.

I love dimmer switches. They are the only thing that make overhead light tolerable, in my opinion, and can help set the mood for doing the sex on the counters.
And did I mention that I have replaced all my incandescent lights with Reveal bulbs? The light cast from regular bulbs looks sickly yellow-green in comparison.

Assuming that you are only the slightest bit technically inclined (you know how to strip a wire and use a screw driver) it should take you all of 5 minutes. Just remember to trip the breaker for your heater and air conditioner BEFORE you unplug the old one, or they will trip when you attach the leads to the new thermostat. I figured that out the hard way, wondering why my new cooling system was blowing hot air, and not realizing that the breaker for the compressor had tripped.

Reveal bulbs rock. We put them in everywhere possible, and it really brightenes things. They're a simple, easy way to brighten up a room.

What are Reveal bulbs? Do they fit in traditional fluorescent fixtures?

Switches and outlets are easy. If I can do it, you can.
1 suggestion, we have a dimmer in the family room where all the TV watching takes place. The dimmer has a remote control so we can dim the lights from the sofa. NO NOT BECAUSE WE'RE LAZY, but because sometimes your lightning needs change with the program (darker for movies, lighter for sports) and sometimes when you think there's enough light, there isn't and then there's that up and down process you go through. Do it. Rich woman like you needs a remote on the light switch. It'll impress the sweet young actor wannabes that you invite over for a drink and audition.

Do you mean that you lower the light when you're going to do the sex with an ugly guy and brighten it with a hot guy?

Ooooh! I know this one!
They are just a brand of GE (I think) light bulb. They're sort of purple instead of white. Other than that, they're ordinary light bulbs.

I have only ever seen them in incandescent form, so I don't think so.

Do you have me on ignore? I ask relevant sex-to-light spectrum questions and get no response.

Why would I ever do the sex with an ugly guy? I'm hot and I have my own money.
