2. Though, that's because I'd rather be dead than imprisoned on Cuba with no trial and no communication with the outside world at all and no way to know if I'd ever get out.
It seems like forcibly stopping people from killing themselves is cruel and unusual punishment.*
*I am not saying that the cruel and unusual punishment ban-type thingy in teh law or constitution or whatever applies to the prisoners, and I'm not saying it doesn't. It's just a useful shorthand.

Interrogations aren't over yet. These things take time. Duh.

How, exactly, is English as the national language going to be enforced?
Is the FBI going to raid smokey rooms in boarded up houses full of people speaking Greek? (Actually, strike that, I know of one such establishment that probably should be raided. But not because of the speaking Greek part.)
Mind you, I'm relieved that I don't have to learn Swahili or Arabic or Navajo or whatever other langauges were on the slate for "national language." But I didn't realize that English was in such danger that it needed to be propped up by the US Senate.
(ETA: If there is an enforcement arm that goes with this new law, clearly someone needs to nominate dtb to head the new cabinet.)

True, but something like that will probably happen only after passage of the 2006 Dangling Participle Act, in which dtb is named as Enforcement Czar(ess).

How about anything that is related to government only being in English. That means all public schools, ballots, any government issued document, etc. only in English.
People can speak or learn any language they like, but if they want to interface with anything paid for by tax dollars it has to be English.
Isn't that what the Senate is trying to do?
That seems pretty simple and straightforward to me.

Maybe it's because some of us haven't stripped ourselves of the last remaining shreds of human decency and respect for the principles of justice -- which teach us that every human being, even the most vilified and scorned, should be considered innocent until proven guilty -- so as to wallow unencumbered in the comfortable and lazy self-righteousness that prevails at the intellectual and moral level of ignorant, bloodthirsty street mobs whipped into a frenzy by the lying demagogues who feed their members a steady diet of paranoid hatred?

Including all of the signs at the border and stuff? Like, don't come over here? I think border guards should be prohibited from speaking Spanish, too. And ordered to shoot anyone who tries to speak Spanish to them.
In fact, I don't think that any diplomatic materials should be done in English. No translators. If people in other countries want to know what our positions are, they can figure it out on their own, and pay for their own damn translators. And if their translators don't translate the way we like it, we can invade. Or just nuke 'em.

You need to put a ", now" between "there" and "would." And remove the "?"

I just don't see how a guy like Ironsped, who approves of the IRA and Hamas blowing up schools buses has the right to talk about killing people without a trial.
Maybe they have pre blowup trials in Belfast or Gaza- is that the difference?

Actually, it isn't what they are trying to do. They aren't that ambitious.
I assume, as part of your plan, you won't be collecting tax dollars from non-English speakers.
And further, when, in 50 years, the majority of the people in the US are hispanic, I assume you aren't going to bitch when they make Spanish the official language and ban government documents in English.

I didn't realize all the people at Guantanamo had been tried and convicted. I thought at least some were "detainees" awaiting . . . something. My bad.
IRA's been on ceasefire for years, Hank. Someone with such a comprehensive knowledge of Irish transvestite cinema should know this.
I don't know much about Hamas procedures (could never get through the first few pages of their manual), but they probably know as much about the people they're maiming and killing as U.S. military intelligence knows about the people they're sending to the 'stan-du-jour for extraordinary rendition, torture and death. Not that there's any way we could ever know, of course.

Would you like to know who those animals are killing?
He was 16. Celebrating Passover in Israel visiting relatives. Having lunch with his father.
