Further Evidence that Esquire is a Stupid Fucking Mag

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ties_that_rock

"PITTSBURGH - The Steel City apparently rocks.

Pittsburgh tops the list of Esquire's "Cities That Rock" in its April issue. The list excludes New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Austin, Texas, which are widely cited for their music scenes.

A caring, do-good attitude is for caring do-gooders.

I like my feelings of superiority to be more visceral and pure - not hiding behind a veneer of altruism.

But what about the piles of people in my neighborhood with good jobs carting home boxes of Ho-Hos, cases of Coke and deep dish pizzas? I don't want to hurt the poor woman working three jobs to feed her kids, but I also don't want to give a free pass to the 30 year old chicken-wing inhaling junk food Pac-Man next door who looks like he walked out of a Botero.

I guess the comprimise is to leave fast food alone, but tax the piss out of junk food.
I still think a tax on consumption only won't have the desired effect. Like bilmore said, leaving production alone while taxing consumption will only serve to line the government's coffers -- nothing else.

And Gwinky's right too, people have to be educated into alternatives. They also have to be "presented" with alternatives. Unfortunately, look at the shelf space in most grocery stores and probably upwards of 95 percent of it is processed and has additives.

Aren't feelings of superiority inherent in every act of altruism?

5. Dessert is not a requirement with every meal.

No shit. I don't think I have see so many orcas in one place since "Free Willy 4: Willy's Revenge" where the whales band together and terrorize a small beach community.

Feeling superior over fat people because you are thin and they are not is pure and visceral.

Feeling superior over fat people by recognizing the economic, cultural, and educational obstacles that might have led to their obesity and helping them to overcome those obstacles is an extremely roundabout, indirect, and boring way of feeling superior.

Do both, and you've covered all bases.

1) This is retarded. I've spent enough time in Pittsburgh that I can say definitively that it does not, in fact, rock.

2) I notice that Austin is the one city labled with the state as well. Is this really necessary? Would anyone really have been confused? Hasn't Austin grown up enough now to be a single name city like the others listed? That's retarded too.

They're not mutually exclusive. Have both and you are super-superior.
