Jon Carroll, a columnist for the SF Chronicle, proposes a diet whereby you eat only the food that you have in your house until you run out of food in your house. We try this every once in a while, and it really works -- I don't want to eat most of that stuff that's been loitering in our kitchen.

Almost everything makes me feel superior.

Apprentice stuff
Not following in the footsteps of the Mtv reality crowd, The Apprentice chicks turned down Playboy... at least for now.

The shrewd business sensibilities of The Apprentice contestants Ereka, Amy, Krista, and Katrina has led them to turn down $250,000 offers to pose for Playboy. Instead, they decided to pose for the much classier FHM -- for free. Ereka Vetrini told the New York Post that "[Posing for Playboy] is unprofessional. It wasn't something I ever wanted to do beforehand, so with the money, I just thought I was selling myself out." Instead, they chose FHM, where "It's the four of us, no nudity." Well, sort of: "We started out being like, 'Oh, we're going to be clothed, right?' And then, by the end of the shoot, we were taking it off!"

I learned last weekend that most grocery stores lose money on their sales to consumers, and make their margins selling shelf space to their suppliers. This is why the soda aisle in most grocery stores is so huge. This is also why Wal-Mart is going to eat their lunch -- its business model is based on making money from consumers by lowering prices.

I find it amazing that every. single. issue. you've ever discussed or put any thought into whatsoever, results in you bringing yourself to that conclusion. It blows my mind. It's like if you can't reduce whatever someone is talking about to whether or not it will get you laid, you simply can't understand it.
But here is lesson one for you: Fat people get laid. People who don't know how to dress get laid. Rich posers get laid. Poor white trash gets laid. Religious people get laid. People who have weddings with no open bar get laid. Girls with J Lo asses get laid. Girls with bad breasts get laid. Lawyers who like their jobs get laid. Hell, I bet even Hank gets laid.
Get a new theory.

I think what he meant was "fat people cant get laid by Brooke Burke" or "fat people cant get laid by a nice tight ass owner"
but good observation. I look forward to his retort. In fact, this reminds me, the neck fat sucking admin never made the "greatest hits" link. I would enjoy reading the mainly correct post again. Just for fun.

The guy who told me that predicted that half of the grocery chains in the country are going to go out of business in the next five years.

So, the grocers are selling below cost, and WalMart will beat them by losing more?
(Won't work until the wholesalers decide to sell to WalMart for less than they sell to grocers.)

Further Evidence that Esquire is a Stupid Fucking Mag

Pittsburgh tops the list of Esquire's "Cities That Rock" in its April issue. The list excludes New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Austin, Texas, which are widely cited for their music scenes."
|
Speaking of music scenes, last night I went out to bOb. It's a cool little bar on the lower east side that has been around forever and plays hip hop and a little reggae.
I haven't been there in a long time and mostly remember it as a place where black people would go to just chill without being subjected to booty music and all the club crap that goes on in black (or any) clubs.
Last night, I was overwhelmed by the number of asians in the jurnt. The ratio was like 8-1, asian to non-asian. Is this a new phenomenon? No complaints. Same vibe, really, as the last time I had been there. Just different looking people. It was kind of cool.
Anyone else notice this in other spots?

No.

This is exactly what Wal-Mart is famous for, so I wouldn't bet against it.
If thinking about the revenue streams is confusing, think about it this way: Many grocery stores put products on their shelves in a way calculated to please their suppliers. Wal-Mart puts products on their shelves in a way calculated to please their customers. Which business model would you rather invest in?
