In fairness, I complain more loudly.

And I live in a community where a lot of these shenanigans are going on and where the challenges are the subject of the litigation.

So I wouldn't feel too badly if I were you, my friend.

Incidentally, for anyone interested, here is a brief field report from the battleground.

I usually do my voting first thing in the morning. Polls open at 6:30 around here. I arrived at my usual polling place around 6:25 this morning, hoping that by some miracle, I might be able to vote and still make it to work close to 7:30, when I usually start. The parking lot was absolutely jam-packed, and the line was already two deep and snaking around the corner of the building. There had to be, at my estimation 150 people already in line and there were numerous cars moving in and out of the parking lot looking for spaces.

I decided, for the first time that I can remember, to vote after work. I realize that there is no guarantee the lines will be any better then, but I really didn't see another alternative.

The termperature here is a comfortable 66 degrees (at least as of 7 this morning) and overcast. I don't think the weather will be much of a factor in keeping people away from the polls.

Going with the conventional wisdom that a higher turnout will favor Kerry, I am predicting that Kerry will win Ohio.

Remember, you heard it here first.

This is more of a FB-type post, but I'll say first, yay for higher turnout.

Question: Is it wrong to be glad you voted if only because you stood in line behind some smoking hot 19 year old?

Followup question: Is there anything better than killing time standing behind a stripper-hot person of your preferred gender, where (in this case) she's flushed with the pride of exercising her patriotic duty, and you're just, well, flushed?

At this point, I hardly care who wins.

OK, I went to vote this am. Longest lines in memory. Phenomenal turnout.

I almost didn't vote for that local R I have been planning on voting for. When I got to my precinct, there were probably 100 to 150 yellow envelopes with the names of challenged voters on them. That is a large portion of my precinct. I saw the list, and it included many people who had lived in the precinct their whole lives -- including one who is a lawyer who works with the Republican governor but is a D. Apparently, wholesale challenges have become their tactic du jour.

Tell me, Bilmore, when you were preparing your challenges, did you do things like look up people's address in the phone book, in past election records, or in any other records before challenging them? I just want to hear that not everyone does it this way, that some people make a good faith effort to identify someone before challenging.

In the end, I voted for the R, because the Democratic incumbent is just too much of an imbecile. But boy, I expect all those voters who show up and find yellow envelopes are going to think twice.
