R.S.V.P. question

Is everyone seeing a rising tide of rudeness vis-a-vis responses to social invitations? Just yesterday, two couples of otherwise conscientous friends finally responded (by phone) to invitations we mailed three weeks ago. (One declined, I think because they always wait until the last possible moment to get better offers, and finally came up with one; the other accepted.) We like these people just fine, but criminy. It's getting tough to take. I should note that both couples had been subjected to voicemails subtly asking for replies; we had written both off when the calls weren't returned for a week.
I originally thought it was because the people out West worth having at parties can tend toward the unrefined and flaky, but is it true elsewhere, too?
Warning: You can't hear the "We assumed because you hadn't heard from us . . . " response and the "Of course, you knew we wouldn't miss it for the world" response in the same day without your head exploding.

You mean you didn't get my RSVP? I sent it back last week. Oh shit, the stamp was upside down. That explains the possibility of death thing. Now I don't get to come to your party AND I get death. Those fuckers.
Cake or death?
edited to say congrats to The Rocket. Glad he could do it in front of a friendly crowd. But hey, was that chubby little kid standing behind him in the interview his? Is it me or were there just not that many chubby kids when we were young? Were we more active or did their moms just hide them?

The real surprise, though, is that Mr. T is beating both Bob Dylan and Bill Clinton. Oh, and Thomas Jefferson.

Just remember, any "internet" poll is usually voted upon in a ratio of helpless, pitiful, acne-infested wonks to normal humaniods in a ratio of at least 3 to 1.

Is this test day?
Upstanding
How refreshing that there are still people around like you, who respect society and the law. Your Grandparents would be proud. You have a good knowledge of the law and a good public spirit, or you have rarely left the house… Either way - keep it up old fruit!
Based on your answers, we have calculated the maximum penalty for your crimes*:
Years in prison: 5 Potential fine: £2000
*Please note this is just a fun quiz so don't be alarmed by your score! The maximum penalty has been taken for each crime and no consideration for scale of crime committed.
Interesting that upstanding people in the UK still get 5 years. No wonder the crime rate's higher across the pond.

Consider that Judge Breyer only gave Ed Rosenthal time served when the probation report asked for 3+ years and the DOJ wanted 7 years, and perhaps we can put Breyer on the list of federal judges who don't fly off the handle at sentencing.
The push for sentencing guidelines actually came out of the Bay Area, where a dealer could get probation or 20 years depending on which judge caught the case. Now it's fairer....they all get 30 years.

DVD Recommendation
I highly recommend Roger Dodger.
My weekend's only disappointment: the OddMan's Geek Test score was disappointing low -- a 16.96252% Geek. I'd hoped his scifi library and tech job would have provided a significantly higher score.

I'll suggest Bend it like Beckham, which was pretty cute.
Pretty much a typical second generation kid wants to do something nontraditional, lies to mom and dad and silliness results.
But it was fun to watch.
And hey, apparently, money CAN buy happiness...sort of
Who knew?

I second. Mr. Elk and I saw it last week. The soccer is cheesy, but the movie is very entertaining. Loved the soundtrack.

I actually thought the movie was painful to watch. What did you like about it?
