I just had to quote this line to save it for posterity. Brava, paigow -- one of your best.
Back to catching up. Oh, but before I do, I want to apologize to the hostess in the black turtleneck at the restaurant near the courthouse over in Beaucoup Egypt.
I stopped there for lunch after a hearing (fast and loose cats *always* beat the uptight anal-retentive law review geeks in librarian glasses), and she was so unexpectedly attractive for this restaurant (good food, but kinda dive-y) that I ogled her in an obvious manner. I really do regret it, because I hate to look like a lech.
Now back to catching up.

I haven't been there in a long time and mostly remember it as a place where black people would go to just chill without being subjected to booty music and all the club crap that goes on in black (or any) clubs.
Last night, I was overwhelmed by the number of asians in the jurnt. The ratio was like 8-1, asian to non-asian. Is this a new phenomenon? No complaints. Same vibe, really, as the last time I had been there. Just different looking people. It was kind of cool.
Anyone else notice this in other spots?

idle acts
Another lawyer on a call with the court just observed that the law abhors an idle act. That made my day.

Wash down a few Midol with tequila shots, dude, and then jerk off while having a quickie.
Or something to that effect.

"Oh, here it comes again" is kind of like Jimmy Fallon's angry punk character on saturday Night Live who says "Oh, that's real cool" to everything, but can't even recall whether he's being sarcastic anymore.
Which begs the question, why are fatties so fucking stupid?
|
I never suggested that noting the appearance of the topic was clever, revelatory, or interesting. I just find it particularly irritating when threads about food or obesity are reduced to "fatties are so fucking stupid."
I know that you're mocking yourself and me with your closing line, but that's not sufficiently entertaining to redeem all of the unfunny, dismissive, judgmental generalizations that you and some other posters make about fat people. You frequently talk about overweight people as if they're not actual people, and you do it in a way that suggests that you actually think of them that way in real life, and you're not just expressing yourself that way for comedic effect.
So the point of my post is that I really, really hate the fat-bashing, and I'm trying to discourage it. It's not because I find the repetition of the topic to be tiresome, but rather because I am disappointed by what it is reduced to.
I don't know why I find this especially bothersome, moreso than any of the other ridiculous, disgusting, unfunny, offensive things that we say here. It's just that most of the time we ridicule particular people --whether public figures or other posters -- based on the things they do or say or post. And usually, when we ridicule people for how they look (e.g., penis nose girl from AI), or find fault with fabulous looking people (Brooke Burke), it's about people who've put themselves into the spotlight and thus invited the scrutiny.
For similar reasons, I didn't like it when posters took pictures from the weatherman website and said nasty things about their looks under those pictures; that just struck me as taking cheap shots at people. It struck me as sufficiently funny to make an allusion to what we all saw when we clicked on the link.
I'm not looking for political correctness, and I don't think everybody should be nice to one another all the time. But when fat-bashing takes the board, it's not fun, or funny. That's all.

Overbroad. Dried figs come in sealed-for-freshness bags, so do raisins; neither food is processed. In fact, I can't think of anything else that even comes in a sealed-for-freshness bag. What comes in those contraptions other than dried fruit?

Uh-oh. How do you feel about Eva Silverstein posts? This is a matter of ongoing concern.
Personally, my feelings are that she went to Harvard and probably got out of the shower to pee. Of course, the jury is still out on whether she ever really got out of the shower to pee on Hank.

People seem to be very divided about The Von Bondies. (Well, we know how my Dead Pool pick Jack White feels about them, but music critics are more split). I'm very excited about my Franz Ferdinand, Busted, Ske, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs purchases.
Hey, I just realized that I now own music by 3 different icelandic artists (Ske, Sigur Ros, and Bjork)! Does this give me any hipster cred?
