It was me. Interestingly enough, three days ago I was cleaning my house while listening to the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack.
A fun fact about Jesus Christ, Superstar. The guy who played Peter in the movie (the great 70s hippie desert movie, not the good but not great 70s hippie desert remake from a year or so ago), doubled as a very prolific porn star. He's achieved every actor's dream. He now directs (porn). http://us.imdb.com/Name?Thomas,+Paul+(I) (spree: IMDB listing)

I must admit, it is easy to find salt & vinegar here too. But I thought that was b/c it is easy to get anything in NY. Glad to hear they are easy to get in the rest of the country. I don't think they were always so easy to get (recalling whiny road trips of childhood thru Massachusetts).
But why will no one give me vinegar (normal, white vinegar) with my french fries? Waitresses look at me like I'm on drugs when I ask for it. I have pretty much given up.

He would just launch himself off the stairs and make his little chimey sound until I rescured and righted him. Once I cleaned ot off though, he found his will to live.
It does and excellent job on hardwoods and, as I said before, non-long-shag carpeting. You have to clean out the brushes every few weeks or so, I roomba my entire house every week. If you are impatient, You might want to get an extra battery or quick-charger because it does take 12 hrs to recharge after 12-3 hours of running. It also rocks on picking up hair off the bathroom floor (I have long hair and shed a lot).
|
Do you have pets? How does it do with pet hair on carpet? Would it probably do a good job at picking up bits of scoopable kitty litter that get tracked out of the box (damn cat)?
Thanks chickie.

One of the best Onion headlines ever was "Porn Star Doesn't Want to Direct." I tend to agree with the Onion. I fail to see how making the move from acting to directing is considered a promotion in that biz.

I thought that the vinegar for french fries was traditionally a malt vinegar, not white vinegar. I suppose malt vinegar might be hard to find here, though. Maybe you could get the vinegar without hassle if you asked for vinegar and oil dressing -- though that's usually red wine vinegar, I think.
In any case, you shouldn't be able to get vinegar for your freedom fries at all, Ms. Former Resident Alien, because this is America, dammit! Not some commie terrorist homosexual-loving state like Canada or Britain.

Nothing else really floated my boat, though I thought that the Elvis and Jack Nicklaus Mysteries was a great premise. Just didn't quite have it though.

Mr. Wong kicked ass. I really miss getting my fix of absurdly funny and un-pc humor from a 85 y.o. Chinese manservant who hates Elvis for "killing" Bing Crosby. Wicked stuff.

I love that place. They totally downplay the fact that McDonald's owns a piece of it, but then again, it's run totally different than McDonald's, i.e. free-range, organic carnitas, everything fresh as can be. Yes, I know that Los Angeles has a billion family-owned Mexican restaurants, but few of them are on the west side, and Tito's Tacos seems incredibly unhealthy.
Oh, and to bring the thread full circle, the Chipotle in Marina del Rey is filled with Loyola Marymount students who use some sort of dining card to pay for their burritos. Paigow will be happy to know I don't "prey" on any of them. Why get "preyed upon" by a 32 year old lawyer when you can date the Delta house social chair?
There's a sort of new wave cafeteria chain in San Francisco called Pluto's. They make sandwiches and salads to order and have roast turkey every day. Back in law school I wished that they had a branch inside Hastings. They always seem packed, but they're not as massive as the plans envisioned by people on the board. Square footage is too expensive (at least in SF), and if you're going to serve that many people, the quality of ingredients will decrease.

Irish restaurants usually supply vinegar for the fries (if you couldn't tell, I love the vinegar). Another alternative is to use mustard (vinegar based) on your fries. Much yummier than ketchup I think. My favorite fry condiment is Grey Poupon (may be wine based, but still quite yummy), runner up would be any kind of horseradish sauce.
Stupid Americans with your bland ketchup. Oh, wait, I'm one of them.

I do have pets. It does an excellent job with pet hair and the stray litter. With pets though, you are supposed to clean it out more frequently, since the brushes do such a good job of cleaning it up. It was the best $200 the SO spent (he got it for me for Christmas. Romantic, I know, but I asked for it.) it's also fun to see how much it perplexes the poor dears when it heads right for them.
You pretty much do one room at a time. While it can take 45 minutes to do a good sized room, depending on how many furniture barriers, etc. it does a very good job.

Not in DC. They just opened one immediately adjacent to a McDonalds. Kind of like that Pizza Hut/KFC/Taco Bell thing.
but they're doing something right. the lines are outrageous at lunch. Although maybe the lines just look long because all the fat butts the 1200 calorie burritos cause take up more room.

Agreed, but the site used to crash my computer. Now that I have a new one, I should go back and see if it can handle it.

PSA and the Holy Ghost

And what's the "mystery" of the holy trinity? How a ghost, God and Jesus can be one in the same and three separate entities at the same time?
|
Yep. This concept never bothered me as a child. I stayed up late nights trying to come to terms with the concept of infinity, but the trinity seemed fairly straightforward.
On the subject of cleaning, I have a cleaning woman. She cleans my apartment and even does my laundry. A good cleaning woman is worth the expense. Contrast coming home after an all-nighter to find a den of filth with coming home to the smell of cleaning products, a cupboard filled with clean glasses, a spotless bathroom, a freshly made bed, and clean underwear.
My parents still live in a big house. Between college and law school, I lived with them. I paid for a cleaning service. This eased tensions in the house dramatically, though my mom still cleaned before they came. A cleaning service only lessens neuroses, it doesn't eliminate them. I think my mom now uses a less-expensive cleaning service less often, but once you use one, you're going to use it for life.

Law & Order: Special Actor's Unit
New York Times article detailing how Law & Order franchises keep New York actors from starving.
Best Quote: "A New Yorker cartoon is on the casting assistant's corkboard: 'In the criminal justice system, the courtrooms are cleaned every night by members of the cleaning crew. These are their stories.'"
Has anyone seen any episodes of Law & Order: Crime and Punishment? I keep missing them. It's a summer series that profiles real criminal trials in San Diego County. I watched a couple eps last year and almost sent a resume down to San Diego.
