I got a day and a half last week. It rocked. And it wasn't even a natural disaster -- pure construction fuck-up.

I watched the Megastructures last night that discussed the Dutch flood control system that will probably be emulated when NO is rebuilt. Trillions of dollars. But pretty dam (ha!) cool.
There are also sections of the country (near the German border) that are set to be flooded if a big North Sea Event hits in order to save the rest of the country. Weird to hear a guy who lives there discuss how the water will be above his second story windows if that action plan ever takes effect.
I also liked the floating houses/roadways that have been developed for certain parts of the country.
I reiterate that Megastructures rox.

Can you send me memos ahead of time when you come up with the new cool table way of spelling things, so that I don't inadvertently reveal my required-to-sit-on-the-ground-in-the-area-of-the-tool-table status just two posts earlier? Much appreciated.

Well, we're closing down as of 7:00 tonight, so I get an extra extra day.

Yeah, of course, New Orleans would be the part of the country that would be set to be flooded so to save the rest of this country (or at least the region).

It wouldn't have worked for your post anyway. Maybe "rokd" or "rawkt"? ABBA probably should be involved here. She is the FB's A#1 cool people jargon creator.

Love the name of the show, "Shoot Up & Swallow." The guy sounds like a genius:
"In other segments of the show, Wesselink plans to go on a drinking binge in a series of pubs."
On the other hand, maybe not:
"He also will try LSD -- on his couch under the supervision of his mother."

I could have rephrased it to something like "Stupid construction workers fucking up rox. I got a free day and a half last week." Had high hopes yesterday when there was water pouring into the underground portion of the garage from the ceiling AND there were mysterious sparks flying out of an area adjacent to the driveway out, but alas, I guess it wasn't anything that endangered us (or, they fixed it in time).

I would think that they could limit it to a relatively small portion of NO, rather than having the whole city go. Which would be a big step up from having the whole city go.
Why do you hate New Orleans? Is this like my friend who won't go to Hawaii for a fun-filled vacation because that's where he went on his honeymoon for his disasterous first marriage?

You may be jesting, but... I don't think that is right. Really the problem for the Dutch is that they share a border with another country that hasn't created as good of a system as theirs. The other problem is rising sea levels (but let's not suggest that there is any global warming going on, lest bilmore should arrive to dispute that hypothesis) that could require additional fixes to their system in the long run.
If we set up a system like theirs around NO, I don't think that the risk of another flood like this one would be high at all. It is just a different proposition in the US to make it happen when such a small portion of a large country is at risk, versus the Holland thing, where the entire little country could basically be wiped out. Different allocation of resources question. Still, I think it happens here. No way from a public relations point of view not to do it now.

Speaking of rock, I'd like to point out that I predicted the last 7 contestants in order, and I picked the winner because I rule! I almost suggested double or nothing yesterday, but chickened out at the last minute. Mig sucked, should not have picked a song that Suzie killed on. Marty can't sing INXS. And Brooke Burke is going to bang either Dave Navarro or JD or both.
Woo Hoo for me.

Actually, I think Charlie's the healthiest looking boy in the band. Mick's starting to look like he's in the interim stages of the shrunken head process, and Keith's always looked like a cadaver waiting for the message to get past all the heroin to his brain so he can rest in peace. Ronnie? Well, let's just say that nature ahas often been unkind to the English and Ronnie proves the rule.
