Look, it's a new year soon... time for resolutions and all that happy horseshit. Consider trying to abandon consumerism as a religion this year. You don't have to make a quantum leap to orthodox Buddhist poverty, but just consider making a move toward being less centered on material for material's sake.

It's ok to dig nice shit. I do. We all do. But you shouldn't talk about it like its a goal. It's fine to say what you like, but discussing what you're getting isn't all that interesting. It's like listening to someone talk to you about his or her dream last night.

The other thing is, posting about what someone gave you isn't substantive. "My boss gave me a necklace, and it was made..." isn't saying anything. So what? It's like writing "I bought a minivan last week" or "I bought a refrigerator yesterday." So what? Where's the compelling narrative there? Where's the punchline? It's not even a request for advice.

It's amazing that you miss the thread that holds these boards together time and time again, namely, that the people here are seeking refuge from the vapid world of people around them who think standing in their office doorway and saying "I bought a Jaguar" is a conversation starter. You can have a conversation about buying shit, and liking expensive shit, but it has to have an interesting hook - some funny observation about the item. Dryly discussing exchanges of cash for high end material is nothing but white noise.

My kid rec. a PS2 and a flat screen for Christmas he loves it and I have to admit, the graphics are pretty great. Very much more so evolved than when I was a kid.

Grey/gray is the color achieved by taking a little bit of different colors and mixing them together and then adding some white. It is sometimes thought of as an exciting change of pace color by women in the Northeast portion of the United States, who add it to their predominantly black wardrobe and call it a color, but in other parts of the world it is considered drab and boring. Grey/gray is the color of the sky on a rainy day.
