Maybe she is the female version of the metrosexual? Women getting in touch with their masculine side.

That is St elmo's fire. John Parr or something like that?
If that is right I will jump out the window now for knowing that.
Edited to add that it looks as if I will have company.

Edited to add -- since like 500 people answered this first -- that the story around Podunkville was that Parr allegedly was discovered by the side of the road with a guitar and without any memory. I'll have to google to see if that rumor was widespread....
Edited a second time to add that the rumor wasn't mentioned in any of the John Parr sites revealed by my google search. Huh.

And if you wanted to know what the lyrics to a particular song are:
http://www.amiright.com/misheard/index.shtml
Cool site -- clears up misunderstood lyrics, gives origins of band names, etc.

Um, yeah, right. Sorry, I guess I forgot about Safety Dance.
As for D Squared, those boys were prettier than me. Flitting about on sailboats and what have you, singing their catchy little ditties. But whatever works for you. I am not judging anyone here. Ever.
This entire thread makes me realize I will be plagued by horrific 80s music for many years to come.

Most obscure band you ever saw live. This has to be a band that others know but most likely nobody else on the FB has been to their live show.
|
I went to DJ Screw's birthday party, RIP, so I saw Lil Flip and Big Moe and D Gotti and others perform before any of them had major label deals. (These names are probably obsure to anyone but str8.)
I also saw Shawn Colvin in Atlanta before she had a deal. The Indigo Girls were in line in front of me for wine.
For ultimate obscurity, I have been to several John Prine concerts. Oh, and I saw Run DMC perform at Disney World with Expose.

Safety Dance is Men without Hats, or Les Hommes sans Chapeaux, who hail from Montreal and featured that great city in their very sucky videos.
Men at work are from the land down under.
I know that you will be very upset after you have found out that you made this mistake, but my husband did the exact same thing last weekend, and he is showing his face about, so you can too.

For some reason, I thought a black group did this. Or was it just that the video gave that impression???
|
In the movie, a black group sang it on a street corner. Shockingly, I thought one of the black guys was so cute.

I saw The Band, without Robbie Robertson, at that cheezy club in Stamford (i think the word "tree" is in the name) that is on the Post Rd. right next to the Old Greenwich border. Take a load off fannie. And I think I also saw BTO there as well. Or are they the same band? You aint seen nothing yet, buh buh buh baby.
Also saw Modern English open up for UB40 on the Pier. UB40 played for about 45 minutes. I was so totally disappointed.

It looks like you are confusing Men at Work with Men Without Hats, a common but serious error.

I saw the Goo Goo Dolls play in their apartment in the early 80s pre-MTV but that prolly doesn't count so it would be a toss-up between The Tubes (opening band was Utopia) and The Exploited (I got to sing the chorus to Sex and Violence with Wadi because I was "close enough to the stage to scare the band").
|
OK, you want obscure. The Surf Punks opened for Joe Jackson. It was in a place called "the Place" and I had to get fake ID to get in, but it was a hell of a show. Not anywhere near as good as Kiss in the Coliseum, but it rocked. "This is my beach babaaay go home!"
