2 stories (the second because it involves a gay couple who wanted to adopt!)
Take my 13 year old daughter and 2 friends to an all ages show at a very seedy punker club. They want to see the 2nd act of 4. The headliner is a band she hates/I hate and friends hate. The show is on Wednesday and the Mom of 1 friend says they have to be home by 11.
We see the first 3 bands and its 10:30 and time to go. My little sweetness is being a real shit, especially considering I'm the one who brings her and friends to shows like this, not friend's parents. in the crowd is a guy in his late 20's wearing a thin leather tie, like the Romantics look. He's with a date.
3rd band ends and I go to her and say "time to go." She start yeling about staying. Thin tie says "Geez dad, let her see the headliner." I want to say "fuck you, my 13 year old has enough sense to know they suck- its idiots like you that would stay to see them" and I want to hit him. But I don't. I say "Someday you will have a teen, and you'll remember this and realize you were an asshole." He says "no I won't I'll be cool then too!"
His reason was he was trying to impress his date.
Same child at 3, her Barbies all over the floor. A couple planning on adopting is over. I say "If you don't pick these up in the next 5 minutes, I'm throwing them away*." One prospective adoptive parents says "that's no way to get things done, watch this. Hey Kate, lets play a game and pick up these together!"
See he had read some theories but didn't realize what its like to have the reality of the kid. I don't want to be "helping" her. I want the toys picked up while I watch TV.
his reason is he'd read books but never played the game.
*and your kids will realize this is bullshit once they recognize the Barbies cost a few hundred bucks in total and you'd never throw that much away.

It makes me want to advocate the Chinese method of binding them up and leaving them by the river for eight hours while mom and dad toil the fields so that the child learns that not every cry is rewarded.
While I am at it, no child should have an identity chips put in them. Any parent who requests one should have their parental rights voided and the child placed in a kibbutz.

If anything, kids should be monitored and managed LESS. I got a call from some vile little shit from my alma mater recently asking me about law as a career. I asked the kid about how campus was and about the social scene these days and the kid had nothin. Nothin. H'ed lived in a fucking cave. All he had to tell me was about what club he belonged to and his achievements. no sports, no fraternities. Just another douchebag from the tony burbs molded, directed, mindfucked and led like a fucking sheep into a career.

Whenever I go anywhere with the Displaced Dog, people come up to us and ask questions/comment. We're used to it, because he's so unusual looking and because dogs are great at making introductions. In general, people will talk to dogs when they ordinarily wouldn't talk to the person the dog is with. I absolutely do not mind answering the same questions over and over again, because generally people are just curious about him. (I have thought about printing up a card with the answers, though, because most people aren't particularly original in their line of questioning.)
Once, the Displaced Dog and I were hanging out at a coffee shop and this guy, without asking a single question about him, told me that he was going to call the SPCA and report me for animal abuse. Apparently, he knew better than I did that the Displaced Dog's dreadlocks were torture. (The Displaced Dog ignored him. He was too busy enduring the agony of eating a scone.) I explained that the dreads are natural, that I don't have anything to do with their development, that it hurts him more to have them brushed out, and the one time he was shaved/clipped, he hid under the bed for six months. I further explained that I regularly bathe the DD, that he gets better healthcare than I do, that his skin is fine and he's never shown a single iota of discomfort in his life, except the time he cut a paw trying to get into someplace he shouldn't have been going. Several other people around me piped in that they'd seen pulis on the dog shows and on the Odelay album cover and other places (this was before the Budweiser commercial). The guy kept on insisting that I was doing terrible things to my dog. Eventually, he left in a huff, and all of the other people around came up to tell me what an asshole he was and how awesome the DD was. The DD got another scone.
(Incidently, I trimmed the DD's fur a few inches two nights ago because it was dragging the ground. To hear the DD tell it, THAT was torture.)

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the paigow shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the paigow hath spoken it.

Will you be prophesizing the return of Thrashers Fan, Purse Junkie, David Caruso's movie career or Crystal Pepsi as well?

Um, no, if I was trying to brag, I would have dropped all the other places I went during my vacay...with the $179/night i was able to score on my room, it had about as much cache as staying at a holiday inn. And, having spent most of my formative years being raised and supervised by gay men, I really don't have anything against gay men raising children. i just brought this incident up because I thought it would make for a good flaming on a lazy wednesday. What I do object to are parents who dress their kids up like doll babies and parade them around when they're convenient and then lock them in a room (no monitor, yes, tons of people were looking askance and asking about it and no, they didn't necessarily go back in 1 hour intervals)...and the idea of how panicky those kids would be if they woke up...and the one can't walk and probably would be more at risk of injuring herself with her mobility issues than the one who could walk....I don't think the adoption nazis would be too thrilled to hear that the babies were being left alone in a building to which anyone on the cleaning staff had access, out of earshot of their foster parents in a building that could not possibly be baby proofed. If this were ok parenting, I would have had a child by now and just put it in a dog crate when it wasn't convenient to be around.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

I like when women (and it's always women, for some reason -- and they're much more bold with my ex) stop my daughter on the street when it's like 70 degrees and say, "Hi, cutie, where is your hat and coat? You're going to catch the flu if you don't bundle up." They never have the balls to say it directly to me. I would like to pull their heart though their rib cage, and put it on their head to wear as a hat.
Not only do they not understand that kids don't need to be completely bundled up just because they're kids, but they don't understand that if a two year old won't wear a hat, you might as well leave it at home, because it ain't gettin' worn.

As a kid in Brooklyn, was hanging out on the street with friends when some girl came running down the street screaming "Help, help me!!!" She was barefoot running, carrying some of her clothes. Some guy was running after her right behind. When we stopped him she screamed "Don't you touch him!"

Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the paigow, but that I am sent before her. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. The paigow must increase, but I must decrease.
