This is the most useless work week of the year.

M*A*S*H was not in reruns when I was growing up. But I didn't know they called it a still. I thought Hawkeye and BJ just made their own booze. Like my dad made beer. I did not learn the technical term.

Anyway all this Canadian still talk at dusk reminded me of that.
I used to work down the street from a sake factory, and every now and then the wind would shift and blow sake smell into my office. Inevitably, I'd find myself taking the free tour the next day at lunch.

Observing the light traffic this morning, I predicted that within our lifetime this entire week will become a de facto vacation week.

My recollection was that as a child I had a best a half-day of school, and most adults worked a full day. Now it's a five-day weekend, 5 1/2 for some.

And I love that some fucking fuck ups go out of town with time-sensitive shit on their desks and you find out from opposing counsel at 3:30 that heavy shit is going down in the AM. And this totally fucks up your night and day and once again, you have to stay past five while these other fuckers are on the beach somewhere.

Sis has a big chip on her shoulders, and half of it is Dexter's "fault." Of course she'd be unlikely to share credit with him. And it's okay she's dumb, lots of people are. That's intentional, isn't it? Like the guy getting out of the trailer- they did that to make her look sort of incompetant.

And she's still new to being a cop. If she's still questioning Dexter after a few more times with him being right, then maybe she is stupid.

Lieutenant hitting on Dexter is weird, and I bet it is a very developed character in the book. Like when she was with the Cuban boy and she was so sad to see him be taken away, I guess it was to show how wistful she is that she doesn't have kids (apparently). But still it just came from left field. Who knew she was unhappy at all?

The writing is very creative. You give them and chance and watch the problems go away.
Like I said, I love the show, so I'll watch. But the sister really annoys me. She's not new to being a cop. She's new to being a detective and she only got promoted because of Dexter. Also, I just don't think the actress is very good. I think a better actress could pull the character off with more subtlety. All of her emotions are done so over the top.

Penguins are very 2005. Puffins are the new penguin. I love Puffins.

Especially the peanut butter flavor.

Another way to get kicked in the dick

OK is it bad manners to walk out of the gym locker room using the emergency exit which opens right into the gym when there are people standing behind the door stark fucking naked?

The parking garage was very empty today. Tomorrow will be worse. Half the e-mails I've sent today have resulted in out of office replies.

I remember that we had Thursday and Friday off, but everything else was pretty much normal when I was a kid. By noon tomorrow, this place will be a ghost town.

No doubt harder than to find an American who doesn't know what a liter is.
Most Americans know what two liters are, but maybe not what a liter is.

So why have I received about 200 work-related emails, one of which being an "extremely urgent" pro bono matter? Because everyone else wants to get the hell out of dodge, but they want to make sure they've sent their documents to me (comments due Monday!) before they go. <sigh> Good thing I have a STILL in my office.

Diet coke addicts who frequent places like Stuckey's and Love's are becoming familiar with the liter.

Doesn't liquor come in 500 ml sometimes?

Things are not dead here yet. And I haven't gotten many out-of-office autoreplies. But, people are swamped and I have been chasing them down to initial things rather than waiting for them to respond with confirmation emails.

I liked Little Children but it made me cry.
