Can't you flip it back on them and have them write their own vows, with the admonition that if they don't, who knows what you might come up with.

(Please tell me you're a sea captain. I would like that. Ahoy!!)
Sadly, though I've talked about becoming a pirate with this same group of friends, I am not a sea captain.

They're actually getting common law married, but they want to have a ceremony, so the ceremony has no legal impact on the marriage at all. It's simply a token for friends and family to celebrate their marriage. (She teaches Marriage and Family, among other things sociological. I suspect a LOT of research has gone into this.)

I am ordained through the Universal Life Church (and you can be to!), though, just in case they change their minds and want me to be a legal minister. I was ordained by a lesbian with a peacock feather in 2001 so I could marry someone else (which never panned out). Pretty much anyone can be ordained, and it depends on the state how the paperwork can be filed. Before the Internet came along, I think that the Universal Life Church used to put ordination ads in the back of the Rolling Stone. That's how Chris in the Morning became the local minister in Northern Exposure.

That's the plan, though they've insisted that they've asked me to be part of it because I've added a certain, uh, flair to events where I've MCed in the past. I pointed out that usually more alcohol and less grandparent types were involved in those events.

I would hold off on asking about that. If they're already thinking about it, it'll come up. Otherwise, it might be offputting.

Foam

Has anyone purchased a tempur-pedic mattress or mattress pad (the latter is what I'm looking at)? Or, better, a similar memory foam product from a vendor that doesn't charge prices like a company with roots in the health care industry? Advice welcomed. Thanks.

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who sent PMs checking in on me and the McMansion during the recent hurricane. I am happy to announce that the McMansion made it through with no damage (except the unfortunate problem with the vomitorium).

In an unrelated announcement, I have several invitations for GMail accounts, if anyone is interested. PM me an email addy and I'll send one your way.

Hoever, your post with the [faux] picture of the McMansion wasn't so lucky - as whoever owned the site from which you linked the picture got all ornery and made us take it down.

Apro...uh, by the way, here in my neck of the woods, in addition to Men (or Women) of God (or Godesses), any notary can preside over the wedding.

RT, I suggest that you threaten to sing Peter, Paul & Mary's classic "Wedding Song (There Is Love)."

We don't have one yet, but we're planning on purchasing one within the next few months. While visiting some relatives over spring break, we got to take naps on theirs, one an authentic Tempur-Pedic and the other a cheaper knockoff. The support was similar, but the knockoff retained more body heat, which you'd definitely want to avoid if you're a hot sleeper.

Throw in some Kahlil Gibran also.

Reputable online discount electronics merchant?

Anyone know of one? I'm looking to buy a memory stick for my Sony digital camera and prices online are $30 cheaper than Circuit City.

I know, I should have posted this on gadgets, blah blah blah...
