I think the $$ aspect came in from the prenup, which gave Nicole a much bigger chunk if she stuck it out for >10 years. Tom claimed in his divorce filings that he left right before their 10th anniversary, which was pretty easily proven false (public appearances together after that date, etc.). I think they settled, and she presumably got some amount greater than the <10 years sum but lesser than the >10 years sum.

I have not heard this. You mean someone paid him to dump her? Who? Please elaborate. I did not get anything for my divorce except a cool decree all in Spanish from the Dominican Republic.

I will dump 10,000 guys if the price is right. Someone direct me to this pay-for-dumping person.
Did you have a pre-nup that went away if you married for X years?

Because by most muckraking sources, Tom and Nicole did, and he demanded a divorce - conveniently enough - X years minus 6 months.

Here's the guy you're looking for:

(Sung to the tune of "I'm gonna be (500 miles)," by the Proclaimers)

When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who spends too much on you
If I get drunk, well hope I'm gonna be
Jimmy Buffett -- let's just go ahead and screw
And if I waver, hey I know I'm gonna be
Kicked aside to see what someone else can do.

But I would blow 10,000 bucks
And I would blow 10,000 more
Just to be the man who is your ex
The ATM that you adore

When I'm working, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who works so hard for you
And when the money, comes in for the work I do
I'm gonna pass on every penny just to you
When I come home (if you let me), well I know I'm gonna be
Craving one more night before you say "we're through"
And if I grow old, well I know I'm gonna be
Signing checks because I'm still in love with you

But I would blow 10,000 bucks
And I would blow 10,000 more
Just to be that man on a shopping spree
With you in a Frederick's of Hollywood store

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

When I'm lonely, well I know I'm gonna be
Thinking 'bout you and your condo by the sea
And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna dream
I'm gonna dream about the time that you dumped me
When I go out (when I go out), I'll have to go to Mickey D's
'Cause I blew it all on you when you said "please"
And when I come home (when I come home), I am gonna be
Living in my parents' basement, 'cause you see
I'm gonna be the man who has no dignity

But I would blow 10,000 bucks
And I would blow 10,000 more
Just to be your ex and write you checks
As you walk right out of my front door

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

fa la la la (fa la la la)
fa la la la (fa la la la)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

ETA: How can it be that CdF posted the above while I was typing this? It is a sick sick world that we live in when multiple people are thinking about the words to that damn song at the same time.

Even more disconcerting, hundreds of thousands of people once listened to these lyrics at the same time. Voluntarily.

Simply put: you get more cap room to keep a guy you already have.

It didn't occur to me until both of you posted it. And now that song is vying for supremacy with Life in the Fast Lane (or whatever) on my involuntary mental soundtrack. Whoo. Hoo.

Take the off ramp to the Macarena. You can thank me later.

I read this three times before I realized by "cap" you weren't referring to "cap" as in "pop a cap in his ass".

I am getting violent in my dotage.

Pirates

The special effects were great - especially Davey Jones. There were more scenes from "the ride" in this movie, adding a little cuteness. It was long, and the last 20 minutes is a set up for "Pirates III, the search for Keith Richards." Otherwise, worth seeing.
That movie sucked ass.

I fell asleep after 15 minutes for about 10 and wound up snoring so bad, my wife elbowed me in the ribs but my snoring had already woken me up.

Then I spent the next hour trying to figure out what parts of the plot I missed while sleeping. Then after another half hour I realized that I didn't miss parts of the plot -- there just was no plot, just pieces of various different plots all thrown into a box and shaken like a hundred different single pieces from a hundred different jigsaw puzzles.

Then I spent the rest of the movie trying to go back to sleep but the thoughts of seeing Kiera Knightly's tits popping out of her bustier kept me awake.

I never really got the Macerena in my head. Or, not as something I identify as the Macerena. So your attempt here was a complete failure.

So go be the man who walked a thousand miles with lines on the mirror and lines on your face.

ETA I think it is actually lines on her face, but that didn't make sense.
