Actually, I was mostly in Scottsdale. I could the see the Crate & Barrel when I looked up from my $35 filet. They could have priced it at $25, but the marketing team said that that wouldn't draw the crowd they were trying to exploit.

I've a cousin in Moreno Valley(?) a burb in the mountains east of LA. So I'm visiting and we're going out to eat- for Mexican. We drive by 3 small independant Mexican restaurants to go to Chi Chi's. What was worse for my opinion of Cuz was that he didn't drive by the real restaurants because he had tried them and knew they sucked. No. He had never tried them- he went to Chi Chi's because he knew what to expect. Why not just commit suicide that way you can be sure nothing more unpleasant will happen.
So i understand the shit of doing this instead of getting somereal local flavor- I just wonder if you might have driven by something better.

Oh Hank, you really understand me. And here I thought you just had a run-of-the-mill obsession.

Thanks - this conference call had me snoring and I needed a good laugh.
BR(it's my opinion that every city in America sucks unless you've got trustworthy locals telling you where to go, but if you do the worst paved-over stripmall-infested nightmare can prove to be really cool)C
PS: in my experience, the best way to find a "trustworthy local" in a strange town is to ask your hotel concierge for a few "hot nightspots," pick the one that looks the most hideous in daylight, and chat up someone drinking there at 2 in the afternoon.
PPS: do not express an interest in purchasing a rifle out of this person's trunk, however. Just a word to the wise.

Every month or so, I head to downtown to meet a friend who comes in for business, and I'm appalled at the restaurant and bar prices in the immediate vicinity of the business traveller hotels/theater district attendees. I'm used to eating in Montrose or Upper Kirby, where the food is excellent at three quarters to a half of the price.

Probably. The dining decisions were left to a friend of a friend who lives there.

It depends on whether you're basing the area's nickname on what the weathercasters call it or what's printed on the maps sold in your neighborhood Stewart's.

Agree. It's hard to mass produce a restaurant with character.

My dad used to have to go to Houston monthly and he said that he was pleasantly surpised to find world class dining. And he and my mum went to San Antonio in the past year and siad the food was great there as well.
I thought you would appreciate hearing that about the Land of 10,000 Fats.
