Ah, jeez. I've gotta stop rooting for the underdog. I get kicked in the ass every time.

The Mets are always pathetic, no matter how good they are.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be THE all-time Cindarella team.

 | Yes, but they try so hard their ineptitude is rather endearing. Until it all of a sudden hits you you've wasted your life rooting for these guys and you want to toss yourself off a cliff, or at least throw some beer at them from the bleachers.

Sort of like being a Sox fan. Except they're always great until their inevitable late-season mass meltdown, which is even worse.

Edited to add, see why I've become a cycling freak?

 | I've always wondered why there Sox fans who are Mets fans and vice versa. Could it be that misery loves company or are we united in our hatred of the Yankees?

 | The latter. And until 1986 (well, 1985) it never presented even a potential conflict. |

 | That, and Boston: New York as Mets: Yankees. We feel their both their inferiority complex and lingering sense of injustice at being made to have one.

 | But the bliss of 1969 is hard to forget! Yes, I was but a pup, but that one perfect moment when the undergod emerged triumphant and all was right with the world was a defining moment in my life.

 | There was a brief time, now a long time ago, when worlds collided and everyone had to choose, but I guarantee you, in the world today Mets fans are NOT hoping the Yankees will prevail. I'll bet most are cheering Boston on.

 | Which was my original point. There is no way a Mets fan can be a Yankees fan. As PJ said,

Are all Mets and Sox fans now (for the next week at least) Twins fans?

Anne
Maybe those tricky Minnesotans will play that trick again with the air conditioning vents.

 | Uh, Cubs? I know there can't be a conflict with them -- the baseball universe would implode first (after all, what happened in the 1919 series?) |

 | Please. My heart can't take the strain of another team like that.
Perhaps the Cubs fans could help?

 | Seems our collective cheering helped. Twins won this afternoon 3-1.

Let's go Twins!

				Twins Fans in Beantown

Bosox fans, rejoice. The hated Yanks just lost game 1 to the Twins, 3-1, before a disappointed sell-out Yankee Stadium crowd (and, no doubt, a steamed George, who will surely fire Joe Torre and tear the team apart if the Yanks do another first-round playoff swoon). Now, if the Twins just win their home games....

				Choke time?

So, have they made it exciting enough yet? Will Pedro take a perfect game through nine innings only to see the game lost 1-zip on a 2 out, tenth inning home run?
Or will we again experience the ultimate Red Sox treat and witness a choke against the Yankees?
